Strawberry Daydream

Frequented by tourist a farm in the mountains allows you to enjoy the fresh mountain air, the lush green gardens and a whole lot of strawberries. Away for almost 10 km from the city of Baguio this is an experience that everyone should try if ever you are in the Summer capital of the Philippines.

2.JPG

The sun was high but the weather was still cool. People were lining up to get inside the farm.

3.JPG

Each garden has a different owner. Some allows you to experience harvesting while some are closed to the public. How would you like to have your very own garden here?

4.JPG

This is the way to get thru the farm called the "Sweet Charlie Road". Sweet Charlie which is the variety of Strawberries raised here as the name suggests. This variety of strawberries gives out a lot of fruits and perfect to eat fresh.

5.JPG

It was a bit quite difficult to get to the farm as it was raining the previous day. This caused the ground to be soft and muddy which made it a bit hard to get around. If you have brand new sneakers take them off or get a plastic bag to get wrap around your shoes.

6.JPG

I have noticed different farms has different ways in raising their strawberries. There are those which are elevated above ground. Set up in rows with black plastic to hold up the soil. Growing them this way prevent unlikely critter from eating up the plant.

8.JPG

There are those planted straight on the ground in rows but also covered in black plastic. As told this prevent weeds from growing into the garden and a great way to keep the ripe berries from the soil.

Here are the tourist waiting in line to get an experience of the picking. It took a while before we could get our turn as the baskets has run out. The next customer could only get in once a basket is available.

11.JPG

People were enjoying themselves hunting down for that ripe big strawberry.

12.JPG

Look under those leaves as a big one could be hiding just beneath your feet.

13.JPG

Strawberry plants are delicate and there is a certain way in harvesting them. It should be cut from the middle of the stem. Since a lot of tourist comes in and out of the farm the price of the experience is double the price of strawberries on the outside market. Often plants in the farm gets damaged in the process. Doubling the price makes up for it for the farmers to still gain income. A kilo of own harvested strawberries here cost 450 pesos or around almost $9.00 and a kilo outside would cost you around 200 pesos or almost $4.00.

14.JPG

The cost I could say is a good trade off for the enjoyment. From the looks of it there are a lot of tourists everyday. It makes me think if they ever run out of strawberries to harvest. There were a lot of people who has gone ahead of us but still I see a lot of strawberries in the farm.

15.JPG

People from different walks of life come in to try their hand in picking. Bending over, searching and turning every leaf. Fill up that bucket to get you one kilo of sweetness.

Here are my kids and @bearkid is having so much fun as usual.

19.JPG

Almost halfway on that bucket to get that one kilo. Making sure we find the largest, ripe and reddest berry that we could find.

20.JPG

I did my share in hunting down those strawberries and it was a fun experience. Personally I love strawberries and could not even help munching on some of them while I was picking.

A very enjoyable day it was for us and glad to be able to share this experience. If ever you are in the country and is in the city of pines. Drop by the farm and grab a bucket for an unforgettable fun experience.

Thanks again for joining me today. Share your thoughts and let me know what you think. Have and awesome #beautifulsunday everyone. Cheers!

Thank you robot truffle pig. 17 sbd sounds good if it was in reality.

I've gone strawberry picking, but not in the Phillipines. It's a great experience!

Hey glad you also experienced it in your country. It was quite enjoyable right lol?

Yes, but not as crowded as your experience sounded. It was quite some time ago though, haha

The loving care given to the berries, makes the taste even better after picking your own @watersnake thanks for sharing an entertaining day out in the strawberry farms.

You are very welcome. I enjoy sharing life as it happens. Including the sweetness it brings.

Wow. @watersnake101 That's a very large strawberry farm. We have one locally but it will be months yet before there are any strawberries to pick. 😊

Wow that is exciting keep me posted. Id love to see you pick up those fresh strawberries. Quite cool having a strawberry farm close by.

Will try and remember to make a post if we go @watersnake101. I'm not very good at remembering to take photographs unless I've gone out specifically with that intention!😁

I always think about steemit whenever we go out. There is beauty around that can be found so I always have a cam handy. You dont know when something exciting comes up. I think maybe Im addicted lol.

I'm often too engrossed in what I'm doing. Food is a classic example. I'll be intending to photograph my meal and then before you know it the plate empty and it's too late . . . again! 😂

Haha same happens when we eat out. I would just say darn foodphotography. But mondays I make it a point to make something a bit special.

Wow. You really are keen! 😂

Looks like a fun outing! We have strawberry farms here in the US, too, but they are usually cheaper than at the market, and only available in the springtime. Lovely pictures and accompanying story! Thanks for sharing with #steemitbloggers 😊

Glad to be part of the family. The energy of everyone us amazing. Thanks
