Street Art in Warehouse District

in #photography8 years ago

Street Art in Denver's RINO neighborhood - a walk down the street looks nearly like any other reclaimed warehouse district in any metropolitan area, but this one features alleys that are jam packed with graffiti, murals and well street art which I suppose is a combination of all of the above an then some.

The main drag finds a few commissioned pieces while the actual back alleys are usually up-and-comers, though I've seen some possibly commissioned pieces by Mike Graves in the alley as well. What will be interesting to see is how how the 'alley real estate' will be valued/prized by the artists on adjacent alleyways. On any given day you can find models and photographers using these as backdrops for photo-shoots and photographers like myself just out to capture whatever there is to be found.

The interesting thing about it all is that different areas have different styles both culturally and stylistic representations.

I enjoy seeing the textures below and the building materials framing some of these works (Mike Graves)

I can see a style developing here - notice the single layer of paint resulting in a more washed out appearance - could be a work in progress or just in a growth/experimental phase, but would look stronger with more solid color / opaqueness (imho)

A crop from a really amazing piece (Mike Graves) - I'll share the entire image in another post b/c it deserves to stand alone. Here he's used the gas meter as the musicians watch - 'gilded' and encrusted with diamonds.

Great pictures. If lived near somewhere like this I'd be popping by everyday to see whats new.

I'm sure you have some interesting graffiti or street artist just dying for some exposure in your area! I've found that there are definitely hotspots in certain cities and in other cities not so much. Take Jogjakarta for example, I didn't expect to see graffiti there, but it was quite prevalent - I'll have to see if I can locate those images. Thank you as always.

sadly not, I live in a small town where our graffiti artists have little imagination, a few crude words and quickly scribbled penises on a bus stop are as creative as they get.

Here we seem to need a title to know what we are seeing! I'll give them credit for 'creative visualization' as I could not find the penis in this picture without the thick black lines lol.

You got some great images ;)

Much appreciated - listening the the Vinay Gupta video - great info about BTC & China - wonder IF any of these facts will make it to the mainstream as far as those who buy/trade BTC. I guess it won't matter until or if someone makes a drastic move or a move that is viewed as drastic.

Today there was new activity on that particular alley - the beginning of Colorado Crush - several murals were painted over today making room for this years http://www.coloradocrush.org which will go on through this next Sunday the 17th. The top image in this post was covered over today by some guys in from Memphis. Met a pair of guys in from Japan on the other end of the alley a few blocks down. Looking forward to seeing what they've got planned.
