EDITING IMAGES UNTIL THE COWS COME HOME

in #photography6 years ago (edited)

Each month I usually do about 500 image edits. I'm into editing my own photos and art, as well as other peoples pictures, so there are usually a big pile to sort into folders at the end of each month

But this month I'm doing more than usual. Over the past two days I've just done about 300 photos for @kiwideb who is organising a presentation for her mum's 80th

These photos mostly range from 1920's to 1980's. And about a third are black and white. But we are not talking carefully preserved crisp classic photos here. We are talking rough as guts old snapshots that have had a hard life.

If I had more time and less photos I'd be more anal and put them through Photoshop as well, but this is high speed editing - just tidying them up for presenting on a big TV screen.

With some of them there is physical damage to fix:

Leaving some stuff unfixed is good for me I think - a sort of anal therapy

Most of them mainly need some cropping to bring the attention onto the people rather than the background.

And then to give them all a consistent style I finish each one with a white frame with curved corners (you may have noticed me doing that before!)

Thank me later @andysantics48

After doing all those I thought I'd be a bit burned out from editing, but what has actually happened is that I ended up wanting to carry on by editing more of my own photos, and more of my art.

Yesterday I did a post about Kuratua where I edited my photos into 16x9 ratio and tweaked them a bit.

And last night I was getting into taking my rough as guts doodles and turning them into art. What I've been practicing mainly is going really fast and seeing what happens.

This is a scan of doodle in my diary where you can even see the lines on the page.

After putting it through some "GoArt" filters, and then some doing edits in "Snapseed" it has a whole new look.

I got carried away and did about another 100 edits of rough art last night.

Here is another one:

But then the cows came home so I had to stop :)

Nice work, plus you are preserving little slices of history.

Exactly! They won't all be used in the presentation, but my long term goal is to have a family tree with all these old photos embedded, that all Mum's grandkids can have a soft copy of, so their kids can see where they've come from.

What a nice variety and peek into some of your projects!

I am a hack photographer so I wish I could justify the time spent editing the photos mostly taken on my i-phone. It is amazing how more immersive a photo can get when you crop it properly and how it makes you seem like a photographer when you change the resolution.

Right now, I am trying some water colour painting with my little girl and will have to take a pic of it when we are done. Probably won't look half as good as even your doodles but fun to learn.

Are those filters on the doodles or do you colorize them?

With those doodles I'm just using filters for the colours but with cleaner ones I do also paint bucket them and stuff.

Haha they are so good! I wanna show my little girl how to do that!

What tools you use? (without giving away your secrets!)

For photo editing on my tablet I mainly use Snapseed and GoArt, with a bit of DeepArt Effects too, but the first two apps are brilliant. They are all free, and you don't really need to pay to unlock extra filters, unless you want to.

For drawing I use In Design (but that one I had to buy) or Art Flow (good and also free)

Much appreciated! I will hopefully have some art to post from my little one with the tools you have shown me.

nice job.

I am the keeper of all the old family photos. One day I plan to burn them all in a big Bonfire. :) :) :)

Your cow is home - time to put them all in a Steemit post!

PS - Check this out: https://nationalvanguard.org/2016/08/disney-and-the-jews-eisner-and-his-kind-must-stop-harming-our-children/

PPS - did you see that evil pile of crap who used to flag all your posts and comments hasn't done anything on Steemit for three months now? - I suspect he crawled up his own arse and died...

clicked the link & bookmarked to read later. Which one- I used to have a few that flagged my posts. If it was just that ASS with a bunch of Steem power who made 1 flag & my posts went INVISIBLE- I hope he HAS disappeared.

If it was some of those Libtards - Virtue Signalling Social Justice Warrior- The Politically Correct Speech Enforcers - or the Crazy Trannies- They Flaged- BUT ALSO MADE COMMENTS. I think they just got tiered of trying to hold their own - and being made to look like an ass by non-stop Onslaught of Verbal Whoop Ass.

If you're going to Flag- You MUST STAND YOUR GROUND, COMMENT & PUT UP A DEBATE. Otherwise you're just a pussy.

I meant barry butthole with all the cash - not the angry trannies who had no money anyway

I nearly shed a tear! It's so important to treasure photos and art from our lives. I'm in the process of doing the same on my end. Respect!

I've been meaning to add up how many images I have - roughly 35 000 I think
