Discovering Crete - Part 4, The Monastery of Odigítrias II

Greetings Steemians!

Welcome back to the second part of the tour through the monastery of Odigítria.

To the north-east of the monastery stands a smaller chapel, built in more recent times, which blends beautifully into the Cretan landscape.

During my stay in May the temperatures were still bearable. A month later, one would probably prefer to be inside the chapel instead of enjoying it from the outside.

The interior of the central church. Typical for an Orthodox church is the lack of benches. Just a few chairs alongside the wall for the older community members. The interior is sumptuously decorated with numerous icon paintings, artful woodcarvings, gilded and silver chandeliers.

In several places of the monastery there are beautiful flower and plant arrangements.

There's also a little local museum in one of the wings. An old olive mill, a wine press and a warehouse with historical equipment are exhibited there.

A guest room was established in a former monk's quarters. I could not find out though, whether it can be booked by tourists for an overnight stay.

Enough sun for today, says the kitten. I agree with that.

I hope you enjoyed the tour through the monastery! Next excursion goes to the famous ruins of the former Minoan metropolis Phaistos. I hope to welcome you there again!

Thanks for watching and enjoy a great day on Steemit!

beautiful my friend, what country is this?

It's the island Crete which belongs to Greece. Cheers!

So süß.

Yes, whenever we travel the most important aspect is Temperature and sometimes high temperatures and low temperatures can give tough time to tourists. If day is pleasant then for sure our tours shines greatly and we can explore the places more enthusiastically.

I have to accept one thing that, the interior is so amazing here with all these decorative stuff and literally it's reflecting as Treasure Of Decoration. And genuinely speaking i can feel the soulful essence and ancient essence after watching these interior stuff and also we can say that this is reflecting as mini museum.

And yes, that kitten understood the importance of plantation and now enjoying that natural shed. And i really liked the expressions of kitten and it's really cute and adorable, and also reflecting as kitten is posing for the photography session.

Thanks for sharing this post with us and wishing you an great day. Stay blessed. 🙂

Ohh how beautiful! Greece is on my list of places to visit! I’ll actually be in EU next month traveling. I plan on visiting Belgium, Italy, France, London, and maybe Croatia. Let me know if you have any fun travel tips or places I should see!

In case you can arrange for it you may also want to visit Berlin. Since Berlin is vast (and flat) I would recommend you to rent a bike for 2-3 days. In my opinion the best way to get to know Berlin. Some highlights are listed -> here
My top 3 would be Hackesche Höfe, Museum Island and East Side Gallery.

I wish you a fantastic tour across Europe! Cheers!

Aww awesome! Okay I’ll keep that in mind when planning! :)

These beautiful kittens stole my heart, hurts are so far from me... Although this time you only showed us 1 of the great gang of the last delivery. =)

True, but this one was the cutest of the gang :)

Very enriching your visit to the monastery, and that word filled with curiosity to know the history and admire through your photographs a place so full of culture, beauty and vegetation native to that climate, thanks for sharing and writing about the history of the monastery of Odigítria. Greetings @shaka

Wie eine Zeitreise, deine Besuche in vor Ort. Der alte Mahlstein sieht man auch nicht mehr all zu häufig.
Es scheint mir wie wenn die Zeit stehen geblieben ist. Schon irgendwie eigenartig...
