My vision pulled slightly by the barren bony tree across the street. Cold November winds wind around the branches as the tree celebrates the still vigorous flexibility it’s taught bark reluctantly affords. But my consciousness focuses on the patch of golden light exalting the already vibrant shade of gold on that building on Rector St.

I begin to wonder, where is the source of this magnificent glow? I imagine a divine magnifying glass manipulating the suns warm energy to this particular side of pristine windows. There must be hundreds of windows on the building yet only a fraction are benefited from this borrowed light. How blissfully unaware the occupants of the dark windows are of the ethereal blessing that is next pane over.

I curiously mull whether the occupants are inside and, if so, are aware of this often overlooked phenomenon. Could it be two lovers, still intertwined from sharing their souls, feeling the warmth inviting itself into their intimacy like warm honey dripping from a spoon into morning-after tea? Or an young babe standing in their crib near the window curiously extending their tiny hands into the rays of warmth they have yet to understand?

No matter the possibilities, I stand here on the cold concrete, gently embraced by the ricochet of rays, perhaps invisible to the source of this divine blessing. But I recognize a blessing of my own; the rich contemplation of playful wonderment and, above all, the swelling feeling of connectedness to this mysterious reality that I would have entirely missed had I not stopped to look at the Golden Building on Rector St :...
