Zen Mind - Thoughts on Shadows

Shadows have always been a point of reference for me as a photographer and continue to intrigue me even to this day. It must look a little strange to any onlooker watching me photograph, following shadows around a building or taking pictures of really non distinct things. Although not that interesting to other people they are of intrigue to me, the angles created as the shadow falls and the fading that can wash from almost pitch black to a full colour is quite amazing to see. Maybe it's this spiritual link that intrigues me, even though I'm not a religious person the idea of seeing light from the darkness, all of which can be found within ourselves is a powerful thought.

This photo was a recent shadow that I captured using my film camera. I really liked the way in which the angle of the shadow came in from the top right corner to the bottom left corner. The little strip of colour brings your eye in and follows out towards the top of the frame. The light was fairly harsh but I thought the harshness was adding to the concept of fading out to light, outside the door. Anyway, I wanted to share the picture here for you to enjoy too and hopefully inspire you to look in to more conceptual ideas in the future. More coming soon!
