Little Monsters S2 Part 8 - Western Toad (Anaxyrus boreas) セイブヒキガエル

The Western Toad is quite common and found in Western North America from Alaska in the north through Baja Mexico in the south. Living for a few years they can become 13cm long (snout to tail)! The individual I've photographed is still young and only about 2.5cm. Though the dorsal stripe is visible!

セイブヒキガエルは北アメリカ大陸の西にあります、アラスカからバハ.メキシコまで！成長したらなんと13cmになる！僕が見つけたの若い一匹は2.5cmぐらいでした。背中のストライプがちょっと見えるようになってます！

Very well camouflaged on grass, and nearly impossible to see on wet sand!
草の上で見つけにくいが濡れってる砂なら姿が消えますね！

I did manage to spot an adult, unfortunately after having the macro lens and setting up the camera, the toad promptly jumped into its hiding space under the deck the moment I turned the camera towards it. No access there, so I went back into the house, took off the lens and put it back in the lens case.
Guess what happened as I took the lens, without the camera back to the car?

That's right, Mr. Toad was sitting right there again! You win this time Mr. Toad!

成長したものも見たがカメラを向いた瞬間で隠れ穴に入った！レンズを外して直すところでまだ出てきた！カエルちゃんの勝ちだな！

Bonus: Pacific tree frog (Pseudacris regilla) waiting for cooler nighttime temperatures in the vinyl siding.
