The Purple-winged Praying Mantis (Six Macro Photographs)

in #photography7 years ago

The Purple-winged Praying Mantis Tenodera australasiae is found throughout much of Australia. They are 80mm to 90 mm in length. The purple / brown coloration of their wings is evident when the wings are open so it's almost impossible to show that in a photograph without causing unnecessary disturbance the insect.

I took the photos below with a Canon 300D and Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens.

Какая страшная усатая хуитень

I agree. Shrews do not suite moustaches.

They are such cool looking animals. I really like the preying mantis.

Yes very cool. They look like little aliens :-)

Fantastic work @mostly.nature! +1 follower! :)

Thanks very much. Glad you liked them.

Very elegant with those green alien eyes :D

Yes very alien. In the third shot it looks like it has a little light on it's head.

Yep... it's to see you better ;)

Very interesting creature. But I have to confess I don't see the purple :P

Thanks. As mentioned above, the purple to brown colouration is seen when the wings are open.

Now I'm embarrassed ;) I was so excited about the photos that I didn't read the post carefully enough...
