Cabbage White Butterfy (Six Macro Photos)

in #nature7 years ago

Some butterflies species are becoming more active in the last week or so. The Cabbage White butterflies. Pieris rapae, have been the most noticeable as they spiral upwards in their mating displays. Here in Australian, this is an introduced species, originating in Europe. While they lack the bright colours and geometric patterns of many of their cousins, they are, none the less, a beautiful butterfly, especially when we see them close up. Of course, gardeners may well disagree as they are considered an agricultural pest. The larvae feed on plants of the Brassicaceae family which includes cabbages, cauliflowers, brussel sprouts etc.

The following photos were taken in my backyard with a Canon 7D camera, a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro lens, and a Yongnuo Macro Ring Lite YN14EX Flash.
