Acapulco Adventures: Day of the Dead Shrine at the Local Walmart

in #photography7 years ago

My favorite holiday is going on, that is Day of the Dead here in Mexico. Of course they've been celebrating as far as decorations are concerned for awhile but the festivities have officially begun and I've got some shots to share of parades and parties around the city to share tomorrow. We found this little shrine in Walmart of all places and I liked it so much I took some pictures to share.

There's a heavy emphasis on and respect for the concept of death within the Mexican culture and this holiday is just one example of it. It's been dubbed the Mexican halloween but it's really something completely different. Food and candy is involved but the idea is to remember the dead during this time, and I think that's cool.

Same in the Philippines it's holiday time to visit the late loved ones. The only time to visit or to clean the grave for the others. Bringing flowers and foods for the deceased and alive.
I think there is no special day to visit but still it's good that there is a holiday, right?

It's cool to hear they do this tradition in the Philippines too.

The party looks great!
It is sad but at the same time happy because we keep remembering those people who are not alive but in our hearts!
If you are in acapulco you should see some chapter of Acapulco Shore!
It is a group of friends who go to party in acapulco.
Great post

I have heard of Acapulco shore but have not seen it...although I may have seen the cast at the local Walmart a few times.

Remembering the dead would certainly be more meaningful. At one time the church had all saints Sunday that would come immediately after Halloween. I think we need to remember those who passed on. Thanks.

Que genial se ve los preparativos para la festividad.

Interesting holiday and display. I had never heard of the Day of the Dead, thanks for sharing!!!

I learned about it in school but my public school made us take spanish classes so that's probably why.

Man to be in Mexico during the day of the dead must be incredible! Let the tequila flow!

And the fireworks explode.

Amazing Work !!! What is the name of this festival !!!
