Castle Ruin Aggstein / Burgruine Aggstein

in #photography2 years ago (edited)

We have visited an old castle ruin in the Wachau above the Danube last weekend.

Castle Ruin Aggstein / Burgruine Aggstein
Wachau - Lower Austria

On the left side of the castle you can see the village Aggsbach Markt on the other side of the Danube and on the right the villages Groisbach and Willendorf in the Wachau can be seen.

The castle is about 150 meters (492 feet) long and was built in the 12th century on a rock spur about 300 meters (984 feet) above the right bank of the Danube River in today's municipality of Schönbühel-Aggsbach (Wachau, district Melk, Lower Austria).

The chapel of the castle can be used for baptisms or for weddings.
For the physical well, there is a tavern where you can find both down-to-earth fare, fine cuisine and medieval dishes on the menu. Cooked is in the medieval castle kitchen preferred with products from regional production.

In the various areas and rooms of the ruins Aggstein there is much information about the castle and living in the castle, as well as an exhibition about the Nibelung.

It was a relatively cloudy day, but the rain clouds left room for the sun from time to time.

I'd love to write a delighted comment about your photographs, but internet here is soo poor that I don't see any images. But I like castles, especially old ones :)

I thank you anyway for your nice comment, dear @zirochka 😊
This castle is really old and although there is a restaurant and a chapel, you cannot live there anymore. It is beautiful though, and the view from there is amazing.
I hope, you have a good time and are doing well 😊

I am having a very hot time, besides I discovered that it can be more hot and unbearable by the sea than in the center of a continent... :) Anyway, any experience is precious.
Are you ready for tomorrow? Or it is today - HF21

Posted using Partiko Android

Good morning @zrochka,

hot or cold, I wish you a great time 😊 Maybe it's a good thing, when the internet is slow and you are able to focus on other, maybe even more important things ;)

HF 21 - what is this? A fork to eat? ;) lol
I don't know, when they press the start button, but I am not prepared - I do, what I always do, and if I experience significant changes, may they be good or bad, I will customize my behaviour on Steemit accordingly.
Right now, I am just curious, if they all are right, who say, that Steemit is gonna die, or or the ones are right, who say, that HF21 is good for Steemit and the Steem 😉 ... so, let's wait and see :)

Have a great day and time, @zirochka 😊

Yes, no inet is good when you're looking for relax. But it's too boring and hot for me. I am here for 2 days, and already feel ready to adventures. Silly, but this popular all inclusive format is not for me.
Well tomorrow will be more exciting day. I wish you have an exciting day ahead! (and thos is a photo teaser)

Posted using Partiko Android

I don't like all inclusive holidays vey much either, and I hate lying on the beach all day long - one hour is enough, then I need to do something ... or I sleep and get a sunburn ;)
Your photo shows a nice beach area, as much as I can see on this nice photo :)
I wish you an exciting day tomorrow - my days are just ordinary boring work days. Maybe I'll find some time to go for a walk after work, if the weather stays alright, because the sky looks gray and rainy.

Yes, it looks nice but it is +36 in shadow, and I can swear the water and salt is even in the air. I am the same, an hour at the beach is quite enough for me, especially considering I don't swim. We took a boat taxi to Marmaris hoping for some fresherness and wind, but sun, sun and sun is everywhere. Hope to get used to it soon.
I'd change the weather with you for a day or too ;) Wish you a nice weather after work for a walk 🌞

Posted using Partiko Android

... and that's definitely too hot for me! I like to snorkel, because I'm not the best swimmer ;)
That's why the people go on such places in their holidays - for the sun ;) lol

But I know, what you mean. One hour at the beach at least, if I don't go snorkeling, and then I explore the area, where I spend the holidays :)

In case you don't get used of it, I hope, that some rain clouds apear and the rain cools the air down a bit.

Anyway, I wish you to enjoy your days there, relax and have fun :)

I know it will never happen but after this post i would love to visit this castle so much History, built back in the 12th Century and standing proud, I cant imagine any of the new buildings lasting even a fraction of that

What fabulous shots and thaks for all the info

Never say never ;)

You are right, I also don't think, that nowadays buildings will stand that long. The castle needs a new roof and windows, and you could move in ;)

I didn't have a flash with me, so I couldn't photograph the few rooms, which are still very or even complete intact and renovated, like the chapel and the tavern, as well as the room, where that exhibition about the Nibelung.

Thank you very much for liking the photos 😊

I do always enjoy seeing old castles like these but wouldn’t want to live in one lol

I bet inside looked pretty interesting I have flashes but seldom use them at all and never carry them with me
That’s one of the local courses I must do they do a couple of course on flash photography which I haven’t done much of at all

I would love to live in a castle, but only in daytime, because at night I would fear the ghosts - I'm so easy to scare ;)

Fot macros I have a small LED light which I can mount on the hotshoe of the camera or place where I need it.
I should know how to use the flash on camera, as well as off camera with a remote trigger, but I use it so very seldom, that I always have to think how it works ;)
To practice this is also something on my todo list, but I don't go to courses - I prefer YouTube ;)

I would love to stay in one for a couple of days and nights perhaps unless it was badly haunted lOL but not long term

I just remembered when you mentioned a small LED light that i did get a cheap and nasty ring light that came with my 90mm Macro I haven’t even opened the box to take a look at it I completely forgot about it I will have to open it up and try it out that could be handy for some shots

I prefer YouTube for the most part as well, but the Local camera club does set up some cool courses bring in models or subjects t shot with so I will keep doing a course on my to do list, i could have done it anytime over the last few years but always put it off

I would stay there, but never alone - you don't know, how scary I am - ask my family ;)

My LED light is the Godox LED36 and I like it.

I don't even know, if there is a camera club in town ;)
I watch YouTube videos and later I try the things myself, if I don't forget ;)

Lol 😂 I have slept places that are most likely most than in a castle so it would be ok even if it had the strange sounds going on
I just looked up the led36 that’s a handy little light and so cheap

I have slept at strange places too, even under a bridge once, but never in a castle or alike.

The light is cheap and handy, I have also used it to light my way and so 😉

Magnificent ! I love to visit castles when there are some along my travel roads 😊

Cool, if you haven't visited this one before, then you should do so - the view from there is amazing :)

Howdy sir johannpiber! I love castles and this one looks fantastic! What a view from there. Did you go inside? Was the castle ever attacked?

Yes, this castle was attacked, but I didn't read all the information on the pages I have linked below the post, but I do know, that you like castles ;)

Yes, we have been inside, but I didn't have a flash with me, and it ewas much too dark for taking good photos.

Thank you so much, that you like the photos @janton.

Sorry, I had to edit this reply, because I didn't see, that you commented on this castle ruin. I should look more what I do ;)

Oh that's okay sir johannpiber, no one is perfect and you are probably going crazy catching up on steemit comments and other things. I'm sure they have a website with great photos of the inside, I just forgot to look. Let me know when it's for sale. lol.

The website addresses are below the photos, and their photos are great, of course:
https://www.ruineaggstein.at/en.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggstein_Castle

There would be a lot of work for you to do, but I think, you would have fun, restaurating it.

You are so right - my fingers are burning from replying ;)

Aggstein Castle
Aggstein Castle (German: Burgruine Aggstein, lit. "castle ruins of Aggstein") is a ruined castle on the right bank of the Danube in Wachau, Austria. The castle dates to the 12th century. Aggstein Castle is 480 metres (1,570 ft) above sea level.

Very interesting sir johannpiber, I wonder what the food like they used to have would be like? At the restaurant. I think you need to go eat there and let us know!

My wife and her sister had some cake, I think it was an apple pie.
On the website they say "From regional to haute cuisine and medieval dishes", and on the menu I could read some typical Austrian food, like "Wiener Schnitzel", "Roast Pork with Sauerkraut" and so... 😉

I think you should order the Medieval Dishes and see what that's all about. They'd probably have you go kill a chicken or something!

That's the same, as we eat today when we cook traditionally Austrian food, I think, just cooked in a different way, and they make special dinners, where people might wear ancient costumes and the eat with wooden spoons and so.
