Strolling By The Rapids

It's time to put some balance in the world! As my previous post was about one of the several ugly buildings in Finland, I think now is a good time to show few nice things about Finnish architecture. If you missed the posts that had, in my opinion, beautiful buildings in it, an old hotel in Imatra, a cafeteria post from Amuri (a district in Tampere), couple of lighthouses, a lookout tower, an observatory and a museum post, here's a post for you adoring the beautiful lines of a former factory building / complex.

Oy Tampella Ab was a Finnish heavy industry manufacturer, a maker of paper machines, locomotives, military weaponry, as well as wood-based products such as packaging. The company was based mainly in the city of Tampere.

Today the Tampella buildings include for instance the Pirkanmaa District Court, Vapriikki Museum Center, a hospital and a restaurant.

If you can find the Tampella sign on the roof of the building, you have also found the Tampella Restaurant and an entrance to the boardwalk / bridge on which you can walk around the former factory, beside and over the Tammerkoski. (Tammer rapids)

The terrace of Vapriikki museum centre restaurant. This is also the backdoor to the museum if you are going there and don't want to go around to the other side of the building.

View from the terrace and then there's the rest of the pathway if you want to continue your journey around the building. If you don't, you can always stay at the terrace and enjoy the warm sun. Unless you happen to visit this place on any of the approximately 360 days of the year when it isn't warm or it's raining. Then I suggest you go inside the building and see what the Vapriikki museum centre has to offer.
