Christmastime in NYC 2016 - [Part 4: Top of the Rock]steemCreated with Sketch.

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

This is part four in this series on Christmastime in New York City 2016. This post focuses on some of the photos I captured from the Top of the Rock Observation Decks.

The admission tickets were definitely pricey at $32 USD each, but the views from the top were pretty sweet. It was very cold, windy, and insanely crowded. For a while there, I was getting disillusioned by standing in queue after queue.

Lines to get tickets, use the restrooms, wait for elevators, watching the obligatory TOTR movie, security checks, etc. And it was hot inside, seeing as how we were all bundled up with coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and backpacks.

OK, enough whining! The sunset we were treated to and the spectacular views of the city made it all worthwhile.

Note that TOTR has three observation decks: the 67th, 69th and 70th floors. We visited all three.

There's not too much more to say, so I'll step out of the way and let the photos do the talking. I will, however, point out a building here and there.

Light show as seen through the glass-top of the elevator on the way up. The series of little blue dots outline the elevator track.

The lowest deck on the 67th floor. There were about 2-inch spaces between adjacent glass panels, just enough room to fit a camera lens through.

The building with the triangle-shaped, lighted top is One Worldwide Plaza.

If you squint or enlarge this photo, you can barely make out the Statue of Liberty.

As you can see, lots of telecomm equipment on the roof!

Tippy-top of the TOTR.

The Empire State Building. The suspension bridge in the distance on the left is the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge which connects Staten Island to Brooklyn. And the tallest building stage-right is One World Trade Center (aka, The Freedom Tower).

The tall, skinny building is 432 Park Avenue. According to Wikipedia, its the third tallest building in the United States, and the tallest residential building in the world. I'm not keeping track.

Motion-sensitive lights in the ceiling that light up in different colors as people come in and out and walk under them.
