Christmastime in NYC 2016 - [Part 3: In and Around The Tree]

This is part three in this series on Christmastime in New York City 2016. Today I'll be sharing some of the images I captured in and around Rockefeller Center.

We stopped to see the 2016 Christmas Tree during daylight, then left to elevator up to the Top of the Rock Observation Deck for a very cool NYC sunset, stopped for dinner at Hurley's Saloon on West 48th Street, toured around Radio City Music Hall and Times Square, and then went back to see the Christmas Tree when it was dark.

This post showcases some photos I took while walking to and seeing the Christmas Tree during the day, and also a few shots of the Tree at night. Go figure but, for some reason (let's call it pilot error), I have only a few shots of the tree at night. I guess I have a lot to learn about night photography!

Some notes about this year's Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree:

• It was lit on the evening of Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 and remains lit until 9PM EST on Monday January 9, 2017.
• After the tree is taken down, it will be milled in to boards and donated to Habitat for Humanity.
• USA TODAY 12/01/2016: The Norway Spruce, estimated to be at least 90 years old, weighs 14 tons and stands at 94 feet with a width of 56 feet. It is decorated with more than 50,000 multi-colored, energy-efficient LED lights strung on five miles of wire and powered by solar panels located atop the buildings at Rockefeller Center.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy these moments and that it gives you a feel for the incredible spectacle that is unique to New York City at Christmastime.
