An Introduction and Some of My Favorite Photos

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Hello world :)

I've been meaning to sign up for Steem for some time now, and after browsing the photography tag finally decided to take the plunge. Below is a brief introduction and some of my favorite images. Hope you enjoy!

I work in crypto but have a huge passion for photography, editing, and videography as well. I started shooting and developing my passion a few years ago when I split a Canon EOS SL1 with my now ex-girlfriend. At first I just had the kit lens and shot mostly landscapes/cityscapes, but I quickly wanted something else so I bought a Sigma 18-250mm to get an all around lens. Having telephoto capabilities is a must for me, and the 1.6x crop on my SL1 combined with the Sigma let me get really close to wildlife and the unique features of the world around us.

After the bull run of late 2017, I splurged and got a Canon 50mm 1.8 and Canon 10-18mm. Getting the nifty-fifty was a big factor in me starting to delve into portrait photography. The wide was pretty useful too.

Eventually I added a Helios 44-M 58mm to my collection to get some vintage-looking portraits. I highly recommend this lens if you're looking for something new and exciting. The bokeh it creates is pretty magical. They usually run about $50-100 USD used and have a cool history.

Last November, I finally took the plunge and upgraded to a full-frame Canon 6D Mark ii. This has been a game changer in terms of quality, especially for videography. The only downside is not being able to use my crop-sensor lenses with it. Currently, I can use the Helios 44M, Canon 50mm, and a used Canon 28-135mm. I still have the old camera and lenses for those times I want a telephoto, but eventually when I've got some spare cash I'd like to pick up a 70-300mm as well.

Just do it.gif

Seriously, what's stopping you? :3

Oh I'm going for it!! Hopefully tonight I'll get my first post up :D

Thanks my friend! Looking forward to seeing what you share with the platform :)

So I'm a Nikon heathen, but I can appreciate good photography all the same. :P

Welcome to the steem blockchain, bud! I can appreciate the kit lens sentiment. I use a 28-130 lens, and it's so nice to be able to have some zoom when you need it. What locales do you love for shooting photography? Any place in particular that you really want to shoot?

Also, being new, you're going to find yourself kinda left to your own devices pretty quick. Thankfully, there's a lot of great groups that can help you grow. If I can take a moment to shill, here's a few suggestions:

@minnowsupport:

One of the largest groups out there, with global reach. It's backed by witnesses like @aggroed, @followbtcnews, @neoxian, @swelker101, and @someguy123. They have their own internet radio channel, and they're a great place to network with people! (Their photography section is a little dead right now. They could use some more awesome photographers jumping in and posting pics!)

@vimm

Livestreaming on the blockchain. It's a project run by me and @chiren, with a bunch of really cool people. Get rewarded for your streams, and support your favorite content creators! We're always growing and we love seeing new faces coming to the blockchain.

@actifit

This app can integrate with your fitbit, earning you Steem for your steps. Really awesome, and a great way to put yourself to work. I've been reporting my pushups for the #seven77 initiative in my Actifit reports. Great way to do it!

@partiko

Mobile app with iphone and android support. It's the easiest way to access the Steem Blockchain on your mobile phone. They really like referrals, and you'll get a little welcome bonus if you use my referral link.

And by all means, if you have questions, don't hesitate to ask me. I can be found on the Vimm or Minnow Support discords. Pretty hard to miss. Or just reply to this comment!

Hey, thanks so much for all that great info! I'll definitely check out those groups :)

Nikon's definitely have their benefits! My buddy has one we frequently use for video, and it had 60p long before we had it on our Canon's at the same price point. I mostly in the northeast US as well as down in Florida. I plan to do some traveling over the next few years, so southeast Asia and the US west coast are top priorities. How about yourself?
