Lake Bled: Travel Photography #5
Lake Bled is a tourist destination in the Julian Alps in Slovenia. Bled is Slovenia's most popular resort, offering activities for everyone. Whether it is the medieval castle on the cliff above the lake, or one of the many hiking, biking, climbing, canyoning and watersports activities, there is plenty to do.
Lake Bled surrounds Bled Island. Bled Island is a small island with the picture-postcard pilgrimage church dedicated to the Assumption of Mary. The church has a 52 meter tall tower. When I visited Lake Bled, the tower was entirely covered by scaffolding. Visitors to Bled Island are welcome to ring the church bell. Because the Lake Bled area is swarmed by tourists in July and August, one can hear the ringing of the bell throughout the day. For some (me), Lake Bled is too busy. But the photo opportunities were amazing and convinced me that Lake Bled was worth a visit. Maybe next time a visit during off-season?
