Falling Back In Love With My Old Camera

A6000

The old is new again

For months now, I've been eyeing up a Fujifilm X100F. The kit lens that came with my current digital camera - the Sony A6000, had met a devastating end while shooting a video for my YouTube channel, plummeting head first into the stone pavement on the north bank of the Thames. It was more reason why I craved the Fuji even more - I had to buy a new lens anyway, so why not just take the plunge and get the camera I'd wanted for so long?

The only reason why I didn't get the camera was because it could not be delivered in time for SteemFest 3, believe it or not. I'd hate to have the camera sitting here in London for 10 days with me unable to play with it, so I put it off. This is one of those situations where my procrastination tendencies actually pay off.

I nearly lost my mind when I saw @eveuncovered pull one out at ICE. Eve, I hope you were able to wipe off (and disinfect) the camera following the way I drooled all over it ;)

Anyhow, back in London, in a stint of adrenaline surge, I clicked buy on a new lens for my A6000. It's not the best, but in terms of focal length - and price range - it is the closest thing to making my Sony look and feel more like a Fuji. The lens is even smaller than the kit lens - hence is referred to as a "pancake lens", so it gives that lovely rangefinder camera appearance. The 20mm (30mm effective) focal length is also very close to the 23mm(~35mm effective) of the Fuji X100 series cameras.

Of course there are many other things that make the Fuji cameras special to use - they really do feel like using an old vintage camera because of the physical manual controls and retro design. However I'm quite happy for now to enjoy the new life in my A6000 at just under £200, rather than spend over £1,000 on a new Fuji. Besides, I can get the manual dial satisfaction from my film rangefinders :)

Dude, my comment is off topic here on your post but I just wanted to let you know as I have not yet, just how much fun you were. We met at the first evenings drinks gathering and you just walked up to whom I was having a conversation with and boom...magically you were in the conversation. I wish I had the stones and the confidence to do that. Maybe SF4. Lol.

Also, your dance moves and smile throughout were infectious. Looking forward to learning more about ya in this next year before we meet again?!?

your dance moves and smile throughout were infectious

Hmmm..

OMG what a great comment! haha. Yes I remember doing that. Well you look very open and approachable so it makes it a bit easier. I also have no shame in public - except when I'm by myself haha.
I can't wait till Steemfest 4. I'm thinking of organising a Steemfest 3.5 just to cut the wait short haha.

Dude, so many times I’d walk by and make eye contact with ya and nod and you’d just start moving and grooving. The fuckin best. Lol

It really was a blast and there are so many new friends to share with and build stronger bonds with. So looking forward to next year already.

Thx brother.

A little drool won’t hurt a camera, or me😝

Does that mean you're weather sealed ? 👀

I am, the Fujifilm is not 😝

This is cool camera A6000 ... And new models are also cool :)
I use Sony NEX-5T :)
Ah... And Soon is out new A model did you look this new camera ?

I used to have that camera - the NEX-5T. It dropped out of my hand unto the a high road in Lagos (3rd Mainland Bridge)

Ah...:)))) you must know ... you must have hand strap when you use a small camera.
I have been lucky the I have not maid this mistake ... because I've used a hand strap :)

Yep. great point haha.

Those photos look awesome, now makes me wonder should I get a camera instead of relying on my phone's camera.

I should learn some manual control on camera instead of relying on auto function 🤔

Thank you. You know you can probably download apps that let you use "manual" settings on your phone? Just to practice. You'd be surprised how amazing the photos you can get from modern phones can be.

Really? Cool, I'll ask the G-god about this 😂

I'll look forward to some more spectacular photos then....

Thanks captain. I'll try my best haha.

Bitching on my 'digital retro' but in the meanwhile eyeing a cute digital cam yourself? What shall I say about this? :')

Hahaha. You got me. LOL.
The irony is my favourite vintage camera is an Olympus 😭😭

Now I understand your honest disappointment. You were like: "WHOA! She has the COOLEST camera ever!", and then you realized: "Never mind, it's just a fake" :')

!!! ⭐️ exactly ⭐️ !!!

I'll forever be that person that disappointed you within 10 seconds after meeting :'(

Nooooooo. er. we can fix it haha. Lets pretend we don't know each other in SF4 :)

Deal. You'll find a woman wearing at least 4 vintage Olympus cams around her neck at SF4 :D Go meet her.

Hahaha. Deal!!

The Sony A6000 is a really neat camera, I really wanted to buy that or an A6500,
But that swizzle screen caught my eye on a “baby” canon , the Kiss M/ Kiss M50,
Really love how those Sonys feel and shoot though.

I need to check out this Fuji people been raving about

It all depends on what you want to do with the camera. The M50 is an amazing all rounder and does excellent video too. If you want great audio, it's even better than the A6000 because it has an input port for an external microphone.
The Fuji is really a photographer's camera. I think it clears your mind of the noise and allows you to focus on your composition and all that.

Yes the M50 is a great all-rounder indeed.
Btw I like how you do your vids man, watched that Steemfest early morning vid and damn that shit was cinematic. I gotta learn how to be artistic with it like that.

Haha. Thanks.
