Welcome to the fourth issue of the Steem Photo Journal!

The SPJ is a @photofriend community project aiming to create a ‘must-read’ for every photo-enthusiast here on Steemit. The journal is intended to inform, entertain and engage the readers.

Besides the contest, which will be always present, sections of the journal may vary depending on the authors involved in the issues and will respond to the readers’ feedback!

PHOTOGRAPHER'S STORY (featuring @travelingmom)

At the young age of 15, when Traveling Mom joined her first photography club she discovered her passion for photography, The photographic excursions, followed by intense discussions about the photos which were taken, turned photography into a lifelong passion for her.

Her time at university and her career as a teacher forced her to take a break from photography for a few years. This changed with the birth of her children when she became inspired to document their life and growth, and at this point, she picked up and pursued her passion once again.

After her children left home, a long-awaited dream came true. She started travelling the world and this journey took her to at least 120 countries. Her very first trip took Traveling Mom to Asia as a backpacker. Thereafter she went on to explore Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo, Brunei, Sri Lanka. Everything worked out without an incident. Fuelled by her success, she gained enough confidence to travel to India sometime later. She encountered a country full of amazing and diverse landscapes, complex and intriguing cultures that are reflected in their magnificent architecture and temples. In the following years, she travelled to India multiple times always staying for several months and explored the country from the southern tip all the way up to the Himalayas.

After that, travelling became far more relaxed. Following months of preparation, Traveling Mom set off to Australia and New Zealand. In both countries, she rented a camper car/mobile home in order to explore these spectacular countries in great detail. Whilst travelling both New Zealand and Australia she also went on countless Group Excursions which took her all over the world. She visited North, South and Central America, many African countries, Asia including China, Tibet, Nepal and many more. Following that, Travelling Mom discovered boundless freedom with a mobile home of her own and continued her travels mainly around Europe, the region of her origin.

Throughout all these travels, photography became increasingly more important to her. She developed a passion for landscape photography, plants in their natural habitat, as well as animals and people. In particular, the various tribes and exotic ethnicities with their rich cultures and habits caught her interest.

Her camera (in case you were wondering) is a Camera: Canon EOS 750D and the Lenses are a Tamron 18-270mm, Canon 18-55mm, Canon Compact Macro EF 50mm.

A table explanation

Votes - Each curator distributes a certain part of the reward pool with his votes (upvote / flag).
Authors - This part of the pool he distributes between a certain number of authors.
VAS (vote average strength) - For general awareness, we can estimate the average vote strength in percents (%), with which the curator votes.
Contr. (SBD) (Contribution in SBD) - The distributed part of the pool is the contribution of the curator, it is calculated in SBD. In this case, the author's reward is taken into account. The curator's reward is not taken into account.
Share % - The percentage of the curator contribution among the contributions of all curators, we can also estimate for information purposes in %.
Eff. - The effectiveness of the curator is estimated in conventional units.

CONTEST

The SPJ’s contest is a monthly photography challenge, constituted by four parts (one a week) with different themes. The four recurrent themes are: portrait, street photography, landscape and black and white.

The way the winner is selected is the following: every week the ten best submissions will be selected by our judges and receive 1 to 10 points, based on their ranking. At the end of the month the points received in each of the four weeks will be added together, resulting in a monthly winner.

The photographer of the month will win 5 Steem! In addition, every week, the three best submissions will be rewarded with 0.5 Steem each.
