Prowincjonalny Blues

Poniatowa. 45 kilometrów na południowy zachód od Lublina. Tutaj się urodziłem i wychowałem, wciąż mieszkają tu moi rodzice wraz z dwiema młodszymi siostrami. Zaletą Poniatowej jest jej położenie w otoczeniu lasów. Wadą - prowincjonalność typowa dla setek tysięcy innych polskich miasteczek.

Największe bolączki - nuda i brak perspektyw rozwoju. Nuda, nazwijmy to, publiczna, ponieważ łatwo jest znaleźć sobie rozrywkę we własnym zakresie dzięki Netflix-owi, youtube, facebookowi i tysiącom innych sposobów na odwrócenie uwagi. Ale potem wychodzi się na ulice i czegoś brakuje, jakiejś żywotności. Ludzi ożywiają poranne zakupy i niewiele ponadto. Trudno też o taką pracę, która dawałaby jakieś perspektywy rozwoju. Generalnie można pracować jako sprzedawca, w gastronomii albo w którymś z kilku zakładów przemysłowych na terenach byłej EDY. No i jako kierowca busa. Szef płaci mało, nawet gdyby mógł płacić więcej (ale po co? - wyrwało się pewnemu poniatowskiemu przedsiębiorcy podczas bankietu), a powtarzalność pracy nuży. Ot, prowincjonalny blues. Wegetacja roślin.

A kultura tu podobno jest, świadczy o tym nasz wspaniały dom kultury... śpiewały Zielone Żabki. I owszem, jest dom kultury, z jego okien też płynął jazz na jam session, ale częściej blues (nie wiem czy wciąż organizują te spotkania). Kulturę, powiedzmy, wysoką reprezentuje doroczny przegląd zespołów perkusyjnych. Niską - pozostałe festyny które uświetnia disco z pola. Ostatnio niby dzieje się coś więcej, planowany jest remont starego kina czy rewitalizacja kolejki wąskotorowej, ale należy mieć świadomość, że ciekawe pomysły młodych Poniatowian wrzuca do kosza stara gwardia z PSL-u (bo ta właśnie partia cieszy się ogromnym poparciem u włodarzy tegoż miasteczka). O wiele bardziej potrzebujemy logo (sic!) miasta i nowych donic na kwiaty wzdłuż drogi.

Architektura jaka jest, każdy widzi. Bloki, bloki, bloki. Poniatowa jest miasteczkiem przemysłowym, ze starą częścią budowaną w latach 1937-1939 i nową, powojenną. Stąd architektoniczne koszmarki pseudo-galerii, bloków okrytych malowanym styropianem i blaszano-drewnianych budek. A szkoda, niektóre budynki z lat '50 mają swój proletariacki urok. A w Poniatowej mieszka się całkiem przyjemnie, słuchając sowich nawoływań z pobliskiego lasu (moi rodzice mieszkają na samym skraju lasu) i oddychając wyjątkowo czystym powietrzem. Świetne warunki dla kogoś, kto pracuje zdalnie i ma samochód. A innym - prowincjonalny blues.

Small-town Blues

Poniatowa. 45 km south-west of Lublin. I was born and raised here, where my parents and two younger sisters still live. Poniatowa's advantage is its location in the surrounding forests. A disadvantage - the provinciality, typical for hundreds of thousands other Polish towns.

The biggest pains - boredom and lack of prospects. Boredom, let's call it public, because it's easy to find your personal entertainment with Netflix, youtube, Facebook and thousands of other ways to distract yourself. But then you go out and there is something missing, lack of vitality. People are invigorated by morning groceries and not much more. It is also difficult to find a job that would offer some growth prospects. In general, you can work as a clerk, in the catering or in one of several industrial plants on the premises of the former EDA plant. And as a minibus driver. The boss pays little, even if he could pay more (but what for? - escaped the mouth of one of the entrepreneurs from Poniatowa during a banquet), and the repetitiveness of work is boring. Simply, small-town blues.

There is a community centre, from its' windows you could hear jazz on jam sessions , but more often blues (I don't know if they still organise these meetings). High Culture, let's say, is represented by an annual drumming bands review. Low - by other festivals enriched by disco-polo. Recently something more seems to be going on, the old cinema is planned to be renovated and the narrow-gauge railway is to be revitalized, but one should be aware that interesting ideas of young people are thrown in the basket of the old guard from PSL (Polish agrarian party, to which most of the town' leaders belong). Because we need the logo of the city and new flower pots along the way much more...

And the architecture is, as everyone can see. Blocks, blocks, blocks. Poniatowa is an industrial town with an old part built between 1937 and 1939 and a new part built after the war. Hence the architectural nightmares of the pseudo-malls, blocks of flats covered with painted styrofoam and tin-and-wood stands. Some of the buildings from the 1950s even have their proletarian charm, a shame to cover them with psychedelic colours. In Poniatowa you can live quite nicely, listening to owls calls from the nearby forest (my parents live on the edge of the forest) and breathing clean air. Great conditions for someone who works remotely and has a car. For others - provincial blues.
