The 8th Photocircle Food photo contest: “Tips, Tricks, Upvotes, & Rewards!”
Hey Steemians!
Few days ago, we announced the winners of the 7th Photocircle Food photo contest, which you may view here.
Before anything else, a big shout-out to @cardboard for donating 1 Steem through the @tipu subscribe feature. The donated 1 Steem will be equally distributed among winners on top of the current rewards of this contest.
"Thanks a lot @cardboard!"
We are now ready to accept new entries for the 8th Photocircle Food photo contest. Before you dig into your photo shoot, allow us to give you some tips & tricks to help you create a more interesting photo now. Here it goes...
Lighting
Apparently, it is the most important factor in creating your food photo. When it comes to food, it is preferred to expose the subject to a "diffused" lighting. This is to produce a subtle blend of shadows & highlights on the image.
The most affordable way to achieve it is to shoot the subject beside a huge window and let the natural "diffused" light shine through the subject. Take note, avoid a direct sunlight to shine directly to the subject, it is to prevent harsh contrast and sharp shadows on the subject.
Composition
Recently, we released a post that talks about the Rule of Thirds. To help you figure out a good angle to your subject and create a more interesting composition, you may start shooting your subject by placing it along the lines or intersection of lines of your DSLR or smartphone's camera screen.
To learn more about this technique, feel free to check-out our post about it here.
By considering the lighting and composition of your photo, you are now steps ahead to your desired result.
To help you get the inspiration that you needed, we lined up some of the winning photos from the previous contests for your convenience, check them out:
1st contest Winner @vonaurolacu
2nd contest Winner @akinome
3rd contest Winner @photovitamin
3rd contest Winner @grandadscookbook
6th contest Winner @fotostef
6th contest Winner @grandadscookbook
Take note, it doesn't have to be a food from a fine-dine restaurant, in fact, it could be your own home cooking! Create some interesting art out of it, or arrange it in a kind of way that it will look more appetizing to the viewers.
Before we begin the curation, let’s talk about the contest requirement:
A food photography of any type or style, it could be a dessert, Entrée, raw food, ingredients, appetizers, & even food art; for as long as it looks delicious
All original photography / write-up content, NO PLAGIARISM of any form

"Take note, the cut-off date for the 6th Photocircle Food photo contest is on Thursday (9th of March 2019 11:30 AM EST)"
Cheers :)
