Life Changing Quotes and Personal Opinion #8:Mahatma Gandhi

in #philosophy7 years ago

Hello steemian friends, today i invite you to take a look at what i think to be the best quotes by Mahatma Gandhi, and my personal opinion on them.

Who was Mahatma Gandhi???

Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar and he was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British rule.
He was, i think, the first leader that by using nonviolent civil disobedience, led a whole country(India) to independence and after this accomplishment, he also inspired movements for civil rights and freedom across the world.

He was imprisoned for many years, upon many occasions, in South Africa and India.

He lived his life modestly without the need of money or any materialistic thing.

He ate simple vegetarian food, and also undertook long fasts as a means of both self-purification and political protest.

On 30 January 1948 Gandhi was assasinated by a Hindu nationalist, by firing three bullets into his chest.

I don't want to go too deep into his story, so i will stop here, but if you want to know more feel free to ask me in the comments and i will give you some books or videos that can help you understand more about his life.

Quotes

  • An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind.

Vengeance is a really bad thing.
We destroy each other because we want revenge and in trying to fight one another we involve other people also.

If somebody has done something wrong to us, we should make him understand that what he has done was wrong and forgive him, in the end he will pay for what he did, in some way, maybe withouth even knowing it, but he will pay.

If somebody destroyed one of your properties you will not feel any better by destroying one of his properties, neither by doing that will you bring back what he has destroyed, this could only lead to more violence. So the best thing to do is to forgive.

  • A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.

Take care about what you think: that means check your thought whether they are having positive influence or negative influence.

Think twice before saying or putting into action.

Change your thoughts by creating positive affirmations:
Instead of saying "i can't do this ,it's quite difficult " we would better say i can , i will , i'm going to.

Our brain is always adapting to our thought patterns and directs our organs to act accordingly so we have to always be aware of what we think and not let undesired thoughts come into our minds.

  • Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

To change the world all we have to do is to change ourselves.

When we change the way we think, we also change the way we feel, and the actions that we take, and by doing so the world around us will also change.

So when we change our thoughts, the world around us will not only change because we see it from a different perspective but also because, the choiches that we made after changing our thoughts, are very different from the choiches that we were making before.

I like this because it promotes love and equality as true religion.

I'd rather lean to the understanding of truth and justice for all and instinct of right and wrong and a good heart than the words of men before that not know what I do now. @isteemithard Proverbs by me
