The right to offend

The recent Jordan Peterson interview has echoed my beliefs on the right to offend.

Put simply, the right to offend is based on freedom of speech.

In order to enjoy the freedom of speech, people have to be willing and able to respect and acknowledge that other people have the same right. It is hypocritical to enjoy a right and not observe it for others. When someone makes bold and outlandish statements and refuses to listen to another point of view or contradictory evidence, that person is not respecting the freedom of speech the other person has. In effect, negating their rights

When a person is offended, they use force to negate the offending party. Whether it's social force, political force, legal force or physical force, the end result is that the party using force (because they're offended) is negating the 'rights' of the other party.

Don't be surprised when another party negates your rights because they are offended by your actions (or inaction) because the weapons of political correctness and social justice have set the precedent of removing rights based solely on feelings.

In order to enjoy the rights granted upon you, you must grant those rights to others.

Accordingly, we must amend the freedom of speech to included

The right to be offended and offensive.
