Humbling Ourselves Before Truth

in #philosophy6 years ago

The word humble has a positive but also a negative polarity, in the sense of a denial of one's own skills or capacities. You can be falsely humble and try to pretend like you don't have some skillset that makes you better at something than others.

Humiliation is not a positive experience usually. But is it only a negative without and redemptive qualities? I'm not talking about degrading someone on purpose. We likely all now that negative aspect. I'm talking about being humiliated by rejecting truth, and the redemption of humbling ourselves before truth. Humiliation also has a positive and negative polarity.

The positive is helping someone raise themselves in conscious awareness by having them face the truth. And yes, having people face the truth can hurt them, and they can dislike you for it. They can feel humiliated simply by not knowing something or by being wrong.

Looking at the word humiliation and it's root humble will help to elucidate what I'm talking about.

Etymology

Humiliation
“humbling, humiliation,” noun of action from past participle stem of humiliare “to humble,”

(adj.)
mid-13c., from Old French humble, earlier humele, from Latin humilis “lowly, humble,” literally “on the ground,” from humus “earth.”

Humble
(v.)
late 14c. in the intransitive sense of “to render oneself humble;” late 15c. in the transitive sense of “to lower (someone) in dignity

Humility
early 14c., from Old French umelite “humility, modesty, sweetness,” from Latin humilitatem (nominative humilitas) “lowness, insignificance,” in Church Latin “meekness,” from humilis “humble”

Do you see the connections?

Pride, Dignity and the Fall

Humble, humility, humiliate, making yourself humble, to take down your pride yourself, being taken down, or making others humble. How? Well it can be the negative way of simply degrading someone, but again I'm not talking about that. The positive humiliation is to present the truth which automatically takes someone down from their false pride, and knocks them down on their knees to be humbled before truth, reality and existence that they formerly were ignorant of, outright ignored, or denied.

Shatter Illusions

You take down their pride and dignity in themselves because it is a false pride and dignity of thinking what is false is true. Someone is in falsity, yet thinks they have truth. Someone is wrong, yet thinks they are right. Letting them continue with their attachment to falsity will not help them or anyone else. It's just the easy road we all like to take so that we don't upset others. Remaining attached to falsity as truth is to live in an illusory false perception of reality. Staying attached to illusions is how we humiliate ourselves by standing against reality.

Taking away people's illusions is one of the main reason's people don't like hearing the truth. The way we view ourselves, our self-image and our worldview can be false, and that falsity can be taken down. That process can be humiliating, but in a positive way.

When we shatter illusions about ourselves, when we take away the false dignity, false pride, then we fall, don't we? It can hurt our fragile egos. If someone shows us how we are wrong, we feel hurt, we feel humiliated. This is our falsity being corrected, and we don't want to admit we are wrong. It bruises our delicate self-image of how we thought we were right, but ended up being wrong.

Humbled Before Truth

We humiliate ourselves by going against existence, reality, truth and moral truth/law. When someone shows us we are wrong, they are humiliating us by humbling us, taking down our false illusory dignity and pride in thinking we are right when we are wrong. We hit the ground, lowly, meek, and are forced to humble ourselves before reality, existence, truth and moral law.

Instead of standing apart from truth, by being attached to falsity, by living in falsity, we let go of the falsity, and humble ourselves before truth, rather than continue to humiliate ourselves against truth. Truth will take down our false pride and dignity when we previously denied it.

Chaos Teaches

Often, it takes chaos and suffering to teach us. This is the hard fall many people need to motivate them to do something about the problem. Our economic reality likely won't change until everything crashes and people are forced to change.

We are lazy thinkers. People aren't facing themselves in the mirror. It's time to help them get real with themselves and snap out of the illusory dream reality they live in. Speak demonstrable truth to counter the falsity.

The economic reality is one thing people aren't aware of that can snap them awake to recognizing they are wrong about one thing, and maybe they should learn to see if they are wrong about other things in their life.

Denial, Not Da-Nile

Many people don't want to be humbled or humble themselves before truth and moral law. They prefer to create their own system of rule and control based on falsity and immorality instead, which defies the optimal behavior to cooperate fairly and honestly. We get stuck in our ways and don't want to change, thinking what we do is already "good" and "ordered".

Obey the Authority

Instead of adhering to discovered principles of an honest living, we put our faith and trust in the creation of a legal system created by others where "authorities" get to decide what is right or wrong. We want the legal system and its "authority" to protect us so that we don't have to be vigilant and care to learn about moral law properly ourselves. To learn how to clean up our act. Just follow another person's false "laws" that change and waver by time and space... This leads to the negative kind of humiliation and abuse of others:

Real humility is to humble yourself before truth, and let go of falsity, i.e. admit wrong. Refusing to face the mirror is how we humiliate ourselves in denial of truth. Only humbling ourselves heals the humiliation.

We humble ourselves before reality, existence and truth as it currently is to know the lay of the land and the real map of the territory. Then we can identify what is wrong and needs correcting, and work to improve the territory of reality that we live in and the map will change. That is where moral truth/law comes in, as the real, good and truly better path and way forward we can take.

People being lazy thinkers is a direct result of the “Deliberate Dumbing Down” that begins in childhood and is supported by the culture at large. It’s a lowering of the bar to make stupid seem smart, and smart seem arrogant.

You watch news reporters talk to the “man on the street”, and who do they show? The most educated, articulate person they can find? Of course not. It’s some guy with a cap spouting off uninformed, pedestrian opinions in low colloquial language:

“What do you think about the new law against using cell phones while crossing the street?”

“‘Bout time! Folks ain’t lookin’ where they goin’ and sumbuddy’s gonna get thumselfs killed!”

Annnnnd the bar is set. If you feel as smart as this guy, you’re doing just fine. If you feel smarter, well, you’re a veritable genius! No need to concern yourself with further education, lest you become so smart that you’ll have to switch to bow ties.

I’m still waiting for the passer-by who says, “This law is a flagrant violation of man’s inherent natural law rights. Self-responsibility cannot be abdicated, despite all efforts to the contrary, and people should be encouraged to consider the consequences of their actions and make decisions accordingly.”

I guess that guy just never happens to be passing by at the right time...

LOL. I don't think that guy is common is the passers by anywhere ;)

Perhaps our mutt up there is a "hyperbolic representation" of the common man, and our informed citizen example is a bit too much to ask for, but I'd fall off my chair if they even showed someone who said, "It's against basic human rights."

You saw this girl who got punched up by police on the beach, right? What's all the talk about? "That cop shouldn't have punched her"... "She shouldn't have pushed the cop"... "Why didn't she just give her name?"...

Completely missing the issue. "Underage drinking" is not a thing. It's some bullshit somebody made up. It's immoral to rob someone for drinking a beverage, regardless of the beverage, or the age of the person. So this costumed asshole has no right to harass her on the beach in the first place. Trying to physically restrain an innocent person is a serious act of aggression, and had she pulled out a gun and shot him in the face, she would have been totally justified (although it would be a bit of overkill).

This is what people don't get, and this is the whole lesson in the story - the difference between right and wrong, and what human rights actually are.

Humble is a united attitude that has tremendous significance. The person who is humble, able to acknowledge all his shortcomings and admit that he needs someone else to help him. Humble is one element of adult attitudes.

However, most people consider that admitting deficiency is merely the attitude of dramatizing circumstances. They also assume that it is better to keep quiet and keep themselves from 'looking less' than asking for help. This is a boastful attitude that needs to be eliminated.

When your arrogance and hobbies cover yourself, you will only find it harder to find a way out of your problem. Then when a lot of people are silent in their arrogance, people appear to be unconcerned about them and come up with the phrase, "Alright, leave it alone." "Ah let it be that person," this is wrong, and must be changed. Do not let people not care about the people around them anyway.

With a humble attitude and respect for people who want to learn, your environment and your whole world will become easier and fun!

Yes, we need to recognize when we can use help and ask for it by being humble enough tor recognize our limitation, not be too prideful to deny the help.

Great message and post here again @krnel
Humbling oneself is important part of individual growth, and being able to admit wrong in a gracious and accepting way. Basically to not be bigheaded and always see yourself as above others, or to notice when someone does feel like that and try to correct them without humiliating them. Some very arrogant people might benefit from being humiliated and they can then take a good look at themselves and hopefully let go some of their ways.... others might use humiliation as a platform to just do it back to others.

But really we just need to learn what is good inside of us and to give this off to others and share it, which all comes down to the truth. Understanding accepting and sharing the truth is really most important in my opinion

Yup. Truth reigns supreme :)

Many a time people are afraid of the truth and that always leads to suffering. If only we know the truth and we are willing to accept the truth as it is, we will be free from so many danger falsities brings and peace shall elude us. Knowing the truth about truth is an important accept of life everybody should embrace. Great one Master of Truth @krnel

Many fear telling the truth, but there is a wisdom in this, and that truth makes you FREE of whatever, even if that truth harms others, but makes you free, before God and before men, because lying, not comes from God comes from the enemy of the world.

Everything comes from the consciousness who espouses it, truth or lies, reflecting reality or unreality.

Night comes before fall and humility is a sign of wisdom a person must acknowledge the truth. Because truth is the only reality thanks for sharing. @krnel

Yes, truth is supreme.
