Considering The Magical Implications Of Synchronicity

Since Human beings were able to contemplate the nature of their existence in the universe they have asked for signs from beyond to aid them in their spiritual journey. These signs have always come in the form of “synchronicities” which are also known as “cosmic coincidences“.

This takes place when something that you are thinking about actually presents itself in the real world as a result of your thought. Over the generations our limiting cultural institutions have led us to believe that these signs from beyond are merely randomly occurring events and that our mind has no impact on, or relation to, the physical world around us. These events are passed off as insignificant and are largely ignored by the general population. However, if one pays close attention to what is going on around them, they will find that nothing is random and that everything happens for a reason.

Carl Jung was one of the most well-respected figures of modern science, and was the first person to use the term synchronicity. He used it to describe the significant coincidences that occur when something in a person’s psyche manifests in the physical world. Jung was inspired to this concept when treating a patient in his psychology firm. The night before a therapy session, the patient had a dream about a golden scarab. The next day during the session when he was discussing this dream with his patient, a real golden scarab randomly hit against the cabinet window. This strange occurrence was the basis for Jung’s "acausal connecting principle" which linked mind and matter through the process of synchronicity. The synchronicities that take place every day demonstrate that there is a connection between our consciousness and the physical world around us. Every one of us experiences this phenomena on a daily basis, whether we realize it or not.

When someone is actively looking for synchronicities in their daily lives, every day becomes a new meaningful adventure where magical things happen all the time. The magic is always there, in every event that everyone encounters, but it’s only visible to those who are actually looking for it. The modern idea of this is more commonly recognized through a principle called “the butterfly effect“. This is the observation that every action that someone takes, no matter how small, has a direct and profound impact on how the future will unfold. Synchronicity just takes it a step further and recognizes that thoughts as well as actions are somehow related to future events.

The most visible occurrences of synchronicity in our everyday lives are surrounding the important relationships that we develop and important places that we encounter. When you meet a best friend or significant other through an odd circumstance or a new job drops into your lap just when you need it the most, you are witnessing synchronicity take place. I’m sure you can think back through your past and remember a few unbelievable circumstances that were in no way just coincidences.

Now in the future when these events occur you will understand that they are significant and you will pay close attention to what you are feeling, thinking and what is taking place around you. Taking in as much information at this pivotal moment is important because it will give you the intuition that will lead you down the right path. That path may not present itself immediately, but whatever was learned through your synchronistic experience will prove to be vital at some point in the future.

Synchronistic experiences teach us that the world is more complex then we can imagine and that our psyche has an unseen relation to the events that unfold in our everyday lives. The alchemists of the European Renaissance paid close attention when these events would manifest because they believed that synchronicities occurred during important moments that would significantly change the future. This acted as a sort of a guide for many philosophers who were seeking to solve the world’s mysteries. If a synchronicity were to occur which had a relation to something that the philosopher was studying, then that was taken as a sign that they were on the right track and to follow their intuition.

This kind of mystical approach to life was not limited to just the alchemists, many indigenous tribes throughout the world also observed synchronicities as signs from their gods. Tribal elders would use these signs to choose where to set up their village, where to hunt or for guidance in times of struggle. Nothing has changed since our ancestors took this path, the universe still behaves in the same way, even if many cultures have forgotten this fact.

We may never fully understand these phenomena or their origins but they are so apparent in our everyday life that it would be careless to ignore them. Synchronicity shows us that the universe is not just a collection of random events thrown together in a meaningless space, like today’s pop culture would lead you to believe. The universe is a place of cosmic intelligence where every thought and every movement has a deeper meaning then we can perceive.
