If Jesus did really exist...steemCreated with Sketch.

This is the first time I'm using the #discussion tag and would like to encourage anyone who reads this to feel free to express yourselves.. I often post these sorts of things hoping to spark a conversation, though I don't necessarily always create the proper format, like asking questions and such.. Sometimes I just post statements that are either thought provoking, or.. perhaps a bit sensational to try to get a reaction out of people. I don't feel like I do it in a dishonest way, cause I believe most of what I say could be true. Yet.. I do admit, sometimes I perhaps push that metaphorical knife in a bit deeper to pierce my audience a bit more into trying to get them to express themselves back to me.

I read once that being piercing is really important. If you don't pierce someone, they may not feel anything at all, and it might just be rather boring and not very noteworthy, however.. If you say things in the right way, and challenge what people believe.. You can definitely get some interesting responses! Heh.

So anyways, whether you're a Christian or not, feel free to discuss my assertion below if you want to.
Do you think most Christians are distant from the teachings of Christ? Or am I wrong?

If Jesus did really exist historically and then came back for the "second coming" or whatever, I don't think most Christians would even recognize him.
They would probably be too busy trying to control almost everything and get angry at him for telling them to not drop bombs on innocent children and stuff like that..
Heck.. They might even crucify him again if he got too vocal.. -.-

Sort:

Everybody is Jesus right now. We have the same potential as Jesus but the only thing is that we do not harness the real power of us and remain ordinary for the rest of our life. Jesus was a simple man like us. It is we who gave have made him God. It is like the story of the lord Shiva in India.

I sort of agree that we are all Jesus at least.. I think he's a metaphor for what's in all of us. Sort of like the hero archetype.. We're all the savior in a sense.. That's my opinion anyways.

believe that he did exist, but I am not sure how much of the story that has made it through the years is 100% accurate. The things that he taught both through his parables, and through the way he lived, is what I believe is important. More that than the "he died for our sins" stuff.

Hey there. Since this #discussion tag was your idea and you mentioned going deeper into discussions I'd like to give you a chance to do so. :) Lemme ask, what is the single most compelling reason that you do believe he physically and historically existed?

And also yeah, if he did exist.. I agree the messages he taught were important. Especially the Golden Rule and some of the more lesser known ones.. Like.. In the Gospel of Thomas. "Jesus said: If your leaders say to you 'Look! The Kingdom is in the heavens!" Then the birds will be there before you are. If they say that the Kingdom is in the sea, then the fish will be there before you are. Rather, the Kingdom is within you and it is outside of you."

I am actually not super confident that he did, although there has been a lot of historical research to show that there was someone living at that time who the stories were based off of. There have also been some theories that they actually took stories about multiple different people and aggregated them together to form "Jesus".

That's what I have uncovered in my research @timcliff. Have no fear I did not get my information from the Zeitgeist movie. I belive the Bible to be a book of metaphors. The point of the story is more important than the actuall details

Ah. I see. So there's not one strongest piece of evidence you'd like to offer? Fair enough.
Also yeah.. There does appear to be quite a few mythical figures with very similar traits or qualities, so similar it's hard to imagine they were different people, seems more likely they were different names for for the same legend.

Have you ever strayed into the subject of astrotheology? Or archetypes?
To me.. I think the various bibles are perhaps all of these things combined, with allegories and riddles and hidden secrets for the esoteric/initiated and those with eyes to see, though.. I certainly do have my doubts as to the historical veracity of them. Especially since I wasn't personally alive back then to see, and humans are really good are faking things and creating perceptions for others to follow.

Yes :) This is a very good book on the topic that I really liked.

Morality is too flexible of a concept across history and religious sects for a "holy man" to be recognized anymore. In addition, with the advent of extreme technological advances and a global attitude of skepticism, even a holy man performing miracles would most likely be discredited. In a news media controlled by political interests in a world where political interests have no use for a savior since they all want to play the messiah, the majority of the world might never hear of it. So unless he brings an apocalypse with him, boiling the seas and burning the skies, I say good luck, messiah.

That was a fascinating response, I agree with most of it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for the very thought provoking post

You're welcome. Thanks for appreciating!

Daily Learn some new from your post. Love to read it.

Good to know. Thanks for appreciating. :)

Thank you for a great post :)
I'm not a religious person but I do believe that religious usually get in our mind at an early age and depend on where we were born! Let's say you are born in the Vatican state, you will probably be Christian. If you are born in Saudi Arabia to a Muslim family, you will probably be... you got the Idea, religion really created where we born and for someone who was born outside of christianity, the name Jesus symbolize nothing :)
Thank you for the post again!

Please check my new post, I think you will like it!
@paps

You're welcome.
While I agree generally with your message, I understand the word religion differently.
Based on the meaning of the word, and the etymologically history, to me it just means to bind ideas together in regards to what you believe. And by that logic everyone is religion cause we all have beliefs about existence.
I will check out your post and give it an upvote or more if I like it. Cheers.

I'm Buddhist and I only belive in Buddha's philosophy.. I'm not going to argue about Gods..
Because many peoples have many religious beliefs..

Fair enough, though did you know some people believe Jesus and Buddha were one and the same...? Or that they crossed paths and perhaps learned from each other? It's interesting to think about!

Never able to comparable the Lord Buddha and Jesus.. Load Buddha is one and only spiritual leader with great compassion..

I bet some would say the same thing about Jesus!

But there is huge difference between saying and reality..

Yeah. I'm not claiming a saying is a reality, but we don't know what the reality was.. So.. A saying is a possibility of what could be.

I hate to admit it, but I think crucifixion would be inevitable. There are powerful evil forces that don't want that type of change, and they control a lot.

Yeah.. Most likely. Though it might be a Crucifixion in the ancient sense, but like a predator drone dropping a bomb on him.

My friend once said..the most important is "The Big Ten"..

The 10 commandments I assume? Sayten... Ahem.. Can't help but think the 10 has extra meaning after some of my recent research.

Why make it difficult?life is easy so let it be easy....
😂😂😂sayten aye...

How about a combination? Both difficult and easy? Mix it up a bit?

Marilyn Manson has a new song out with that title.

Great post and I wish steemit had a sticky or pin option because this is one of those special posts. ??

Yeah I think a lot of Christians go against the bible. This quote about judging other people is pretty strong, yet lots of Christians are highly judgemental.

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. 3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

Another thing is, since some Christians are judgemental they will justify not giving the poor. They think it was their fault, or God was against them, so they shouldn't have to help them even though they are wealthy. This strongly goes against the teachings of Jesus.

Personally I believe most christians have incorrect views on the bible even if they are good people. Mostly the idea of an immortal soul, heaven and hell.
