Pet Peeves #4: Shitty Teachers

It's been quite a while since we've bitched about things. So that's exactly what we're gonna do today, lol. For those of you who would like to see the previous parts, links are in the end card below!

I'm sure many of you guys have your own list of things that annoy you to the point where it becomes almost impossible to keep your cool. Sometimes it just becomes unbearable to see how stupid someone is being, especially when their stupidity starts to affect your life.

While there will always be serious problems in the world that are to be dealt with, these little ones are no less frustrating and sometimes even more than the big ones as they are a part of our daily lives.

Have you ever felt like your potential is being unvalued and degraded? I know I have. Thanks to all the shitty teachers who put their ego above their students, and their arrogance above their integrity.

Now before some of you get all offended and call me disrespectful for pointing this out, let me remind you how being a teacher doesn't automatically give someone the privilege of never being criticized.

It's shameful to realise how on one hand, we talk about innovation, creativity, progress, and rapid growth in almost all aspects of life, and on the other hand, we are still allowing these unprofessional teachers to lead and guide our future change-makers.

Teachers Without Actual Knowledge

Just reading some text in a book and regurgitating the same thing over and over again isn't teaching. Real teaching is when you have actual knowledge about that topic which is beyond the book and you are enthused to share it with your class.

Some teachers teach in a way that seems as if they are following a script. The same words, the same manner, the same way of speaking, and sometimes even the same dead expressions every single time.

I swear, it sometimes even looks as if they are on auto-pilot and all what they are doing, is just existing. They try to put in as minimum efforts as possible, which makes you think that studying on your own is the better option.

Teachers Who Can't Take Criticism

"Don't tell me how to do my job"

"Well then do it properly you dumbass"

A big part of teaching consists of letting your students get comfortable in the class, and create an environment where they would willingly want to participate in the discussions held in the lectures.

But a teacher who is insecure of his or her own self image, to a point where they don't accept the constructive criticism given by their own students, is a really bad role model, to say the least.

If your way of teaching is not understandable enough and needs more clarification or detail, and a student shows initiative to politely inform you about that, then isn't it your responsibility to adjust your way of teaching?

Narcissistic Teachers

Some teachers are just downright narcissists at their very core. They see themselves as someone who can't be challenged in any way possible, and they won't hesitate to waste everyone's time to tell you about it in detail.

In almost every case, narcissist teachers are also the ones who won't take criticism. To them, their pride is worth more than anything else in the world, and they won't ever take any fingers pointed at them.

The worst part is, everyone knows that they hate that teacher but can't really do anything about her/him, especially if you live in a country with a fucked up education system where you are considered disrespectful for pointing out something that should be obvious.
