Pet Peeves #3: Overly Positive People

This is the third part in my 'pet peeves' series. If you'd like, you can check out the first part here and the second part here.

I'm sure many of you guys have your own list of things that annoy you to the point where it becomes almost impossible to keep your cool. Sometimes it just becomes unbearable to see how stupid someone is being, especially when their stupidity starts to affect your life.

While there will always be serious problems in the world that are to be dealt with, these little ones are no less frustrating and sometimes even more than the big ones as they are a part of our daily lives.

If you grew up watching Disney movies just like me, you know how overly positive they can be at times. As kids, it didn't bother us because we were innocent and unaware of how the real world works. But as we get older, we eventually start to learn the way it really is.

However, for some people, it seems like either they are still inside their little bubble of a perfect world, or they are just trying way too hard to be positive which usually gives out the opposite effect. Now don't get me wrong; I do believe in trying to be positive and looking at things at a positive perspective, but sometimes, overdoing it does more harm than good.

Let's Not Pretend Life Is Fair

You know it. I know it. We all know it. Life isn't fair, so why pretend? People tell me that assuming that things are okay, makes them better. If that's true, then why is everyone so stressed out?

Just assume that you're not broke; assume that you're not lonely; assume that you are truly happy with your life and couldn't ever ask for more. Sounds fake, doesn't it?

Instead of pretending and faking that everything is alright, wouldn't it be better if we just own up to our deeds and accept the fact that shit happens and we need to embrace it instead of avoiding it?

Pretending Only Makes Things Worse

The best example I can think of to explain this topic are people suffering from mental illness, especially depression. If you're close with someone who suffers from these illnesses, or are one who suffered yourself, then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Ask any person who recovered from these illnesses and they'll tell you this exact same thing: "Hiding your problems only makes them worse and more powerful". Now does that sound fake? Hell no.

Truth is, we all try to be happy and positive as much as we can, and that's a good thing, but sometimes it's better to just let it all out no matter how hard it may seem. Be angry, complain, cry, but let it all out somehow. It's doesn't make you a bad person; it makes you human.

Life is shitty sometimes, I know, but what we need to realize is that self-development is a choice. You can either keep pretending, or take action. Whatever you do, choose wisely.
