What do you do when you brake line gets tangled paragliding!?! (Video included)

When you are setting up for launch you have a couple things to check on. One of those things is your brakes. I failed to properly test my brakes before launching.

When you fly, the first thing that you need to do to keep the wing from falling in front of you, pull on the brake lines. When I did this, my brake line was dangled in my "C" riser on the right side.

  • The question is what do you do. You are mid flight. You are 100 ft above the ground.

  • The answer is you reach up and pull the line from above the handle.
I am glad that I spent a good deal of time at the park ground handling because this is where I learned that if my brake handle is jammed in the lines, reach up and pull from the line.

I hope by sharing these kind of lessons that I will help someone to not make the same mistakes I have made.

I am going to keep this post short.

This was my second flight of the day. Its at the half way mark of the video or there about.
During this flight, my son said that he walked up to a rattle snake. He was pretty stressed out because he couldn't get to the spot where he wanted to record.

Hope you enjoy the video.

Wow, captain, I have a lot of catching up to do on your videos and posts...

Fascinating! Scary! Exciting! Thank you for sharing...

😄😇😄

@creatr

Thank you my friend for coming along on the adventure!

Man you gotta stay calm and react the way all the long hours of training has shown you how. Good post very useful for anyone who might ever find themselves in that same situation but be safe my friend

👍🏼thanks for the look. Have a great day!

Was the tension in the C lines holding tight on the toggle knot then? I zoomed in the picture but old age failing eyesight lol.

It jumped through the "C" riser. And when I pulled strait down it was kind of locked in place. You can see in the video where it flops around then comes free.

Okie doke,
I've watched the footage now ;)

Can't say I've ever paraglided, but it looks like so much fun. There are a few guys I see from time to time doing it near where I live (in HK) but I suspect they're pilots by profession. I'd probably make it onto one of those ultimate-fail videos, to be honest, so I'll leave it to the 'pros'. Nonetheless, good on you for sharing your passion!

"ultimate fail videos" Had me rolling. I am that guy in the videos! lol
The guys who fly paragliders call each other pilots because there is plenty of things that you need to know before you go fly. I have posted every launch and every landing from the beginning on youtube. Its a pretty long process because I have taken the "self taught" road. I hesitate to call it that because I don't think it would be possible to be self taught. I have learned from other pilots, youtube videos, and books. Oh and hard knocks.
There are a lot more to come. Have a great night.
