The Last Picture Tour Of Thessaloniki, Greece - Capturing Our Final Moments

in #outofthinair5 years ago (edited)

When I began collecting images for this article, my intention was to only capture people photography. Random images of both unsuspecting pedestrians and those who are cooperative participants adds personality to even the most scenic photography.

But we’re in Thessaloniki for one more day where (I already miss this place), since our arrival here four weeks ago, those of you who have been following me, know I’ve been compelled to show you all of the amazing street #art we’re surrounded by during our tour of Greece—this article is no exception. My original intention of capturing only people photography changed to capturing people photography and street art within the first couple of photos.

All but one of the following images are random shots of either people simply being themselves or murals. The more I collected pictures of the local artists paintings over the last month, the pickier I became, wanting only brand new and bright work or large, commissioned pieces. When nearly every roll-up door, public transport, abandoned building, or freshly painted over surface is covered in vibrant spray paint, it’s easy to be picky. The one you’re about to see first, however, with the sun rays shining down on the Thermaic Gulf and the cargo ships in the distance couldn’t be ignored so I used it as the cover. In the words of my virtual friend, @idig, “Injoy!” This #adventure is far from over, we’re still just getting started. Next stop—Israel!

Really nice post, love the street art. Hope you are enjoying Israel, I saw from the sweeds feed you are there safe and sound. Have fun.

Good morning from Tel Aviv, Israel, @farm-mom. We had such an amazing experience in Meteora. Greece is such a beautiful country with such a kind community—we both miss it already. Do add it to your bucket list. You’ll be thanking me I suggested it.

Thank you for keeping an eye on me, Robin, and thanks for always being so nice. I hope you’re having a great weekend. Blessings to the whole farm.

Good morning @dandays, so now we are on a first name basis?😊
Yes, I would love to go to Greece. I blew it some 15 years ago when my nephew Zak married a Greek girl, should have jumped on the plane with my brother and his family and enjoyed the destination wedding.

Too bad at the time, the lack of that dirty green paper prohibited us. We still had two in college, need I say more. I won't make the same mistake twice. My bucket list just got longer.
Glad you and pura are loving it.
Take lots of pictures...as if ?
Enjoy the day.so nice to here from you.

Thanks for maintaining this cool initiative @itchyfeetdonica @livinguktaiwan. Encouragement is what keeps us inspired—see you in Israel!

Looking forward to your adventures! Cheers, Liz (@lizanomadsoul)

I hope this reply finds you on the ground at your next stop @dandays.
After some of the unfriendly events that unfolded while in Costa Rica, I'm glad the last two stops were enjoyable.
Despite the racism that seems to be a part of the fabric of the people living in England, you guys met some cool peeps. Next up, Greece which you guys thoroughly enjoyed. Now onto Israel, which may even tickle your fancy more than Greece.
Every destination gets better then the last, so if this trend continues, your travels will bring you to new heights of excitement.
Adventuring from one destination to the next, every stop seems to be more to your liking. This scenario would be better than the other way around.

Some really cool pictures, I especially like the one of what looks like Yogi Bear.
Stay safe, stay in touch, and enjoy every moment of this wonderful adventure!

Those two women in that one picture, boy you're lucky looks can't kill.

@thebigsweed. We made it!! Oh crap! I don’t know when, if ever, I’ve been this excited about something. I feel like such a toddler dude, I can’t explain it. Put it this way, I even woke up Pura (you have no idea)—something I've done only about 5 times in the five years we’ve been together but I was totally prepared and willing to accept the 30 minutes of fire.

One thing I’ve never seen, though, that airport security—woah! The waiting area in Greece to board the plane was gnarly. Three different metal detectors when I’ve never, ever seen more than one—three! They each came with their own pat down, too. And while in the lobby, waiting to board, armed officers randomly kept checking passports. It was a trip.

Cool peeps—yes’ir we have. Eh, we ‘haven’t’ met some cool peeps, too, Bob! 👍🏿

I’m glad you liked these pictures, thanks for keeping an eye on me this long, our virtual friendship means a lot to me.

Those ladies—dude! True story—I wasn’t even picturing them, I honestly didn’t know they were there. All I meant to do was picture the sidewalk, it wasn’t until I began sifting through them I picked up on their face like “oh my goodness!” They looked like they wanted to bite my head off.

Well, she’s up and at’em now, sir, guiding herself through her phone scoping out various tours. Nazareth, Jordan River where Jesus was baptized, Mary and Joseph’s House, <—woah, my autocorrect capitalized “house.” Where he walked on water, fed 5,000, this is what i meant by excited, Sweed. The waitress last night hooked us up with a touring joint called Abraham Hostle, cool name, right? Oh, and our cab driver was named Joseph. We don’t have phone service other than WiFi in the room so I won’t be on the platform much, if ever, other than this one and only response, but I’ll catch ya’all up at the next spot if not sooner. It’s 7:45am and we only have 8 days here and I feel like I don’t have a minute to spare.

Enjoy ever minute, this is an opportunity of a life time.

Oh snap Israel!? Woot!!!

I would be disowned for that street art, although i dig it, u dig?.

Jerusalem---36-hours---cityscape.jpg

Oh you know I dig it! There’s so much paint around here it makes me wish I had a wall in my back yard.. if I had a back yard.. when I get a back yard... I’d like to be able to practice stuff like that is what I’m trying to say.

I’ve seen artists paint the commissioned pieces before in Long Beach in progress, they use those old slide screen projectors, remember those? How the school teachers used to do their lessons and the slide was lit up on the chalk board behind them? They use those.

So their art is on the slide and they transfer it to the structure in whatever size they need—pretty incredible.

Yeah dude, Israel, it’s on! Plane leaves in like 6 hours actually. We won’t have phones there, I’ll be doing all of my capturing with the GoPro—it’s on!! I haven’t been excited this much about a stop yet. Let’s do this!

edit
I almost forgot. Thanks for letting me borrow “Injoy!”

I never ever thought about the projectors. Brilliant.

Can’t wait to see the pics from Israel !

Hey what’s up @anonymity5? I hope your week is off to a great start.

I’m pretty excited for this stop, plane leaves in about 6 hours—can’t wait! We won’t have phones there, I’ll be capturing everything from the GoPro and I’ll probably be MIA for a minute but it’ll be my pleasure to show you what we saw when we get to Rome and have our phones back.

It’s always a pleasure to hear from you @anonymity5.

Can’t wait to see the pics ... have a wonderful time 😁
