Steemit Open Mic Week #60 - You and I by Ingrid Michaelson (Ukulele Cover)

in #openmic7 years ago (edited)

Week # 60 is here! I'm upping my equipment game this week by using a microphone and some studio lighting. I just bought a couple lighting softboxes this week and I've been pretty impressed with the well - rounded light they provide for both videos and photos. Especially considering that they were pretty inexpensive.

You and I by Ingrid Michaelson was actually the first song I ever learned to play on the ukulele! For those who haven't heard the original song - it is a mainly acoustic ukulele performance. A few weeks after I bought a ukulele and started learning, I actually had a Hawaii trip with some girlfriends planned and so I asked if they had any requests! This is the only request I got (expect a ridiculous amount of Disney songs from one friend)... and so it's what I learned! The girls I was going with were all theater buddies and so we were pretty used to singing and being silly together!

Unfortunately, the friend who requested this song ended up canceling last minute, and so I was stuck with a bunch of Disney requests from my other friend. I played a lot of Aladdin and Lion King that trip.

Either way, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for this song because it was my first. :)

I hope you enjoy my cover of You and I! I really appreciate you taking the time to listen. As always, thanks to @luzcypher and @pfunk for hosting this amazing weekly contest. The open mic community is my favorite little corner on Steemit.

very charming performance lovely voice and playing great job my friend thanks for sharing your talents with us.. just wonderful

Wow thanks so much @soundlegion! That compliment means a lot coming from you! 😊

I commented in the Open Mic thread already but really, I'm enjoying this cover a lot. Also I love the 'recent posts' section at the bottom. I might appropriate that from you ;)

Thank you so much for your kind words and support! You should totally build a similar footer! Ive been really happy with it.

Would you mind sharing the html? I have a footer with social link buttons that I've been thinking about sharing. Perhaps we could collab on a post about footers or something... haha

I actually paid @raised2b 10 sbd to help me design my footer, and so it’s not really mine to hand out. If you check out his footer, it has a similar feel - but is a little different. You could totally reach out to him if you wanted to pay him to design yours, or you could play around with the design yourself! I think he used tables to help line up the photos and text.

By the way, your footer with social link buttons sounds awesome! I bet lots of people would enjoy a post on that.

I might, but now that you've told me there's money in this business...

From what I've seen, this is your best overall performance so far. Definitely the best audio quality, range, energy, presentation and timing. Nice to hear that little ukulele tapping breakdown towards the end too. I'd throw in the blanket and not bother competing, but you have one already. Very good job.

Wow that feels like a huge compliment! The camera doesn’t lie and I think recording myself every week is helping to show me where I need to improve.

Way cool in upping your game, @coruscate! Your skill and talent is very much deserving of such... This was quite entertaining for me, thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to listen! It was definitely fun to work with a little better equipment! 😊

Congrats on becoming a judge for open mic, by the way! That is FREAKING awesome and well deserved!!

Cute song.

amazing!! loved it!!! so you play various instruments uh?! how cool!

i am just starting to play the uke... i am loving it...

me, as your friends am very into disney.. and i would love to hear you singing anything disney lol!
so.. would you? lol

That is SO cool that you are learning the uke! It is such a great instrument. 😊 I actually wrote an article called Complete Starter Guide to Learning the Ukulele You might find it helpful.

Do you have any requests if I do a Disney song? No promises, but I would think about it! hehe

it is a great instrument indeed.. but .. what instrument isn't really? i would love to play them all haha! Thanks! i will read your article!
There are SO MANY great Disney songs i don't even know right now.... but from the top of my head.. maybe.. colors of the wind? or bare necessities? When you wish upon a star?

Hmm those are all great choices! I love colors of the wind! I recently found this cover by MAXX that is really fun. He has a great voice, and I think you would enjoy it!

Omg you are right i loved it! I meve heard a version like this before.. he has such a different approach for the song.. his style reminds me on Justin Timberlake ( whom I truly admire btw) .
Isn’t this “MAXX” guy a youtuber that colaborates a lot with this other guys “Hugo Schneider”? I think i have seen him before somewhere :)

Sounds great! Your right hand is like a clock.

Oh man, you don’t even know what a big compliment that is for me! I tend to get off time and so I’ve been practicing with a metronome lately.

It shows. The metronome, I mean. I used to use books for drummers to practice strumming and singing at the same time, using exercises designed for learning rhythmic independence between different limbs on a drumset. Time is the absolute most important thing, and you're sounding really good with it!

Wow, I’m impressed by anyone who can play the drums, let alone sing at the same time! That is some serious coordination.

Beautiful performance!

Thank you @donatello! I appreciate you taking the time to listen! ❤️

Lovely performance!
Upvoted and resteemed!

This was a very nice performance , your voice blends very well with the ukulele :) . I liked it :) . I'm voting for you ! Cheers!

Aww thank you @pechichemena! I really appreciate your support!
