Steemit Open Mic Week #55 - Say Something (Cover)

in #openmic7 years ago

This week I enlisted my talented sister to sing and play her violin! I've been talking to her about Steemit and I think she's pretty close to joining! Always fun to bring another Steemian on board. Maybe you guys can give her a little love and encouragement in the comments? <3

I tried using a new app called Acapella that lets you layer different tracks without a lot of editing experience. I was pretty saddened to see the poor audio and video quality after all of our hard work practicing and recording though. Our voices get a little lost at points in the audio too.

I like the idea of being able to layer different videos and tracks and will continue searching for a good way to do that. Any tips out there from the open mic community? I have a pretty new iPad and a surface pro 3. I've used iMovie a bit, but i'd love to hear any suggestions on software! I'd like to do more recordings with her because I think the piano and violin combo is so beautiful. Besides... jamming with her is always fun!

I hope you enjoy our cover of Say Something by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera.

How cool you're making music with your sister. My whole family plays music and we made music together growing up.

You should definitely join Steemit. It's so much fun and you'll love it here. People are nice on this platform.

thanks_for_playing_steemit_open_mic.png

That's so fun! Do you get to jam with your family very often? I have 4 brothers and a sister and we all play a couple instruments. My sister is the only one I really make music with though... except maybe around Christmas. Sometimes we'll play some Christmas music together.... mainly just because it will make my mom's day. :)

quality again, your sister is super cool too. I have thought of a song that I think would really suit your voice and would love to hear it, not trying to get you to do nothing you don't want to do like lol. I think you and your sister should sing and play the piano to Lily Allens -somewhere only we know.
Maybe you could do it for Christmas or something? just an idea :)

lot of love to you guys and thanks for sharing your talents with us :)

I LOVE that song! Thank you so much for the suggestion!! That song has lots of great possible harmonies and the violin would definitely sound good. Thanks again!

I have acapella as well-still don't use it much. As for great sound, try The Zoom iQ6 or iQ7 microphone - you can plug it in directly to your iPad. Zoom has an app for these mica with some really great processing.

Thanks for the great tips! I’ll have to check that microphone out. :-)

Great vocals and talent! Wow!

You're using acapella ... i suggest try using an apple earpod it has noise cancellation features and a studio-like effect for a higher quality audio.
Great performance btw! :-)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm definitely open to trying whatever makes the audio quality better. Thanks for stopping by and listening!

Amazing, even with the sound issues. Would've been cool to hear it as a good quality recording, but still incredible as is!

Thank you! It definitely sounded better in person. Will be fun to play around with different options and start recording better quality audio.

Both of you sound like charms together...bummer about the bad quality, I'm wishing it were in good quality...your dear sis should def join steemit!! Thanks for sharing your lovely harmonious voices.. <3

aww thank you! <3 Thanks for sending some love to my sister. I think she'd love it on here. Definitely a bummer about the audio quality, but I look forward to figuring that out and posting some more recordings in the future.

Great song choice. I'm always butchering it singing it while walking around my city, so thanks for doing it justice. Nice effort and harmonies all around. My only suggestion if you do this again is to lower the keys slightly so they compliment your vocals. The vocals were getting washed out/overpowered a little for my ears, but I'm a drummer, and probably not that qualified in this dept.

Thanks for listening! I think I just need to learn how To mix and edit so that I have more control over the audio levels and quality. I thought this app would be an easy way to layer tracks... but I'm pretty disappointed about the audio quality. I think once I learn how to produce better videos, we'll re-record it and share! Thanks for your feedbak... I really appreciate it!

Wonderful! i fell in love 2 times!

wow. apparently you are music lovers huh! any variety of ways you do to have fun with music, piano, violin. anyway you do not care how much money is spent on music. i like your way of life. what we can get acquainted at another time

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! My sister is one of my best friends and it's been really fun to start playing more music together.

what we can get acquainted elsewhere?

Do you mean on Steemit chat? I actually haven't signed up for that yet... I know that makes me pretty lame. I really need to get on there! Anyways, thanks for stopping by and listening.
