The latest section of my WIP Singularity Painting

in #ntopaz5 years ago

ntopaz-image-0A section of the latest bit of my painting.

Here is the larger portion completed.

As I've mentioned before my Singularity pieces tend to become more intricate. I love to add and add.

It is very much a narrative ongoing.

I find myself sort of lost in the world of the painting I am working on.

As if I were writing fiction, I do various drafts, in this case in the form of studies. And when I am at the oil/pastel stage I like to break the piece up into bits. Sharing these as I go. As in many ways they are separate chapters of the entire pieces narrative.

As I work on it, building up layers, I also add more characters or details.

This latest section shared is the build up of this last study I showed you:

And before that only the Dog appeared, the charm, chalice, and owl had not yet been conceived.

Even the face of the figure changed from the sketch

which I shared with you before as well:

When I last shared the Pug on her lap, the other elements had not been created either, thus no ribbon or charm as of yet.

Thus, we can see slowly the painting is being revealed.

In many ways it is revealed to me as I go along as well.

Working on portions of it often leads me to consider things like putting an apple in her hand or realizing the Dog at her feet needs the counter balance of the owl.

The touch of gold on the cup to mirror the charm.

The red of the Dog's ribbon, the charms ribbon and the colour of the chair, all forming the sort of "Renaissance triangle of composition" to direct the eye.

Much like plot devices to direct readers in fiction, the Triangle composition gives the viewer clues to where the eye should go.

This idea of layout and lines of sight in composition has always fascinated me and I find myself using it somewhat in my larger involved paintings.

Well, I have a few tasks lined up in my 'to-do'list on this fine, rather windy, Sunday so I shall close here.

I hope all of you have a fine Sunday and get a moment to dream or imagine a story. Even if engaged in chores or work, a moment to daydream never hurts and in some cases, might even help.

I'll hopefully 'see' some of you in the comments later so by all means feel free to upvote, resteem, and of course comment.

Thanks a lot @livvu yes I love a painterly look with some details just suggested with brushes or blurs of colour.

Donna, you always do something wonderful and this shows of your work is not an exception. We liked the owl, although we do not ignore how beautiful the dog is, the look of the owl and its colors are ideal.

Greetings from this side of the world and much success!

Gee thanks so much @cafeconleche Yes the owls and butterflies seem to keep wanting to crop up in my Singularity works :)

I like how you describe the way you paint. It's interested to get a peek into your mind :) I like art because it's so flexible.. you can add almost anything during the process and you can perfect all those details until you can finally call it an artwork.

This one is so unusually colorful. And you are right. All those details that you mentioned caught my attention.

Thank you for sharing and have a great rest of Sunday. I'm about to do house chores so nothing exciting for me..

Thanks @delishtreats yeah I like to talk about my creation process, it sort of helps me to create more, speaking it out aloud or, in this case, typing it out ;)

I hope your chores got done :)

So you are not a creator who knows the end from the beginning. I've heard that there are some who do. Perhaps it is true. Do you know any?

Well @onceuponatime I sort of am both a creator who does know end and beginning and one who doesn't with my more graphic pieces, like my animals in chairs, I am very much a planner, with sketch, study and final realization before I go in and finish it up. But, with my Singularity pieces I like to let the story unfold. I sort of need both type of art approaches in my life :)
