Have You Ever Been to a Viking Bar? Visit Munins Post with Me!
Have you ever been to a viking bar? Do you want to? Honestly, who wouldn't?
I will give you Steemit people a little teaser from the local viking bar, Munins Post. Yes, Munin as in Odins Raven (I think Munin was memory). The whole place is based on Norse mythology and Viking stuff!
Welcome to Munins Post! I love the Fenrir (Lokis wolf child) mirror.
It it probably my most favorite place to hang out with friends in town, since it is full of nerdy people like myself and the atmosphere is really relaxed (other then the metal music often playing).
They have metal shows, punk shows, comedy night and magic the gathering night too! They also have a stack of board games for customers to play, and often you can find groups playing Dungeons and Dragons as well. A nerdy geeky haven!
Doesn't this place look oh, so chill? And it feels pretty authentically viking too, except no one is trying to fight you and the people don't smell so bad.
If you are ever in Kelowna, BC, I highly suggest you check this place out. Its right on Bernard street (the main street downtown) and has good hearty viking food and drinks too!
One of the coolest parts is that the drinks are all named after various viking things, whether thats Freyas seduction or the Longboat. I went for a pretty simple Lone Tree cider (tbh my first time buying alcohol at a bar, look at me adult!).
The Game Corner: Pick your doom!
The Viking Decor:
Everything from swords, to art, to viking helmets! The walls are covered in cool stuff like this, adding to the Norse vibes.
I always want to grab one of those long swords and practice my sword fighting, but I think they would get mad at me for that!
The long sword is one of the only weapons I have had actual training with, and I love it. Sword-dancing is a lot of fun, since there is no need for sword fighting in this day and age.
The long sword club around here actually gets a discount at Munins Post after training, I have joined them before and it is pretty damn fun! Nothing like a hearty viking meal after a couple hours of swinging a sword! I really want to go back to practice with them again...
Now for, The Game:
My friends are pretty rad. This fateful night thy friends Petcha, Rex, Nick, Ryan and myself gathered around the table to battle to bankruptcy on the Monopoly Board. Rex is awesome cuz she is also a kitty girl, so we both wore our ears like weirdos.
In hindsight, it was a really lame game to choose. Petcha was the only one who remembered the rules, so he was the bankster, and spoiler alert; he won as well.
It all started out pretty well for myself, big cups of cider and good luck. I hit the lucky jackpot a few times and quickly became rich, aaannndddd then I went to jail at least 3 or 4 times. I was doing pretty well but then the damn banksters stole all my money!
Ryan became the Rockerfellers and soon had a monopoly, exploiting us all for ridiculous amounts of rent.
Petcha was broke for a while, but came back to become the Rothschilds and also exploited us all for our hard earned (lol) Monopoly money.
Nick got distracted by friends and missed a few turns, so he fell behind in the race to build hotels. Silly guy is too popular around these parts for his own good :P
Rex totally had the worst of luck and went bankrupt first, but she is so cute it didn't matter. Not like Monopoly money can actually buy you anything, unlike Monopoly fiat.
Our luck turned around fast, the draught ran out, the food was quickly devoured. By midnight Bankster Petcha owned most properties and we had no chance, so we all gave up and ditched the rigged system. Fuck the banksters, taxation is theft!
Next time we are going to play a game more suitable for us anarchists, and hopefully it won't be bitter cold out. We walked home in -15c!
Thats about it for this short adventure to the lovely Munins Post. If you are ever in the area, come check it out! I am sure I will make another post about it, and other cool places around town, as the weather gets warmer and things are more lively.
Downtown Kelowna is a goddamn riot in the summertime and is totally tons of fun! I am excited to share with you the cool stuff that goes on from a Locals perspective.
Thank you friendos for joining me! I will be making more effortfull posts in the near future, as soon as I find the necessary focus and motivation for research :P Have a lovely day!
