IMPORTANT: ROCK MELON KILLER VIRUS OUTBREAK

Hello Steemians! This is a health awareness post. Recently, it was found that the rock melons imported from Sydney, Australia were contaminated with bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes. So far, 4 people have died after consuming it and about 17 people have been affected.

Listeria attacks begin with symptoms that are flu-like, for instance fever, muscle aches, nausea, chills and diarrhea. The incubation period can be up to 70 days. It is advised not to consume rock melons especially the ones imported from Sydney for some time till the issue is resolved. It is highly risky to our health and can be fatal as it can cause death.

The imports of rock melons have been stopped for the time being to prevent people from consuming the affected fruits. The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is following the Australian health authorities for further updates.
