Wrestling Thursday: MiTB Week

in #news8 years ago

Sunday is Money in The Bank, Saturday is NXT Takeover. It's a big week for WWE wrestling, so let's get ready. I will have separate posts for the previews on their respective days. This is just the recap of the week that was.

Raw

We've got ladders!

All of the Raw participants in MiTB are on ladders. Predictably, they all argued. Unpredictably, there was no violence.

Fatal 4Way #1

The four Raw women who will be in MiTB had a fun match, with Natalya winning. Which, I gotta say, surprised me. They don't usually give the pre-PPV win to the PPV winner, and I think Nattie has a good shot at winning and cashing in on Ronda, if Rousey wins the title later in the show.

Breezango squashed

I am still not won over by the Dolph/Drew team. I still think Drew doesn't need Dolph. Like, at all.

Sunil Singhed

Roman squashes Sunil and gets a khallas. A pretty good looking one! I still don't care about this feud.

A Team

Oh, sweet B Team, you've come so far, in so short a time. You're a delight, kids, but I can't see you going over on Sunday.

Breaking A Guitar

If Elias cared about breaking guitars, he wouldn't hit people with them constantly. Also, what the hell was up with Coach? I mean, he's usually bad, but calling John Mayer a hip hop artist, and then seeming to think the guitar was Jay-Zs? I mean... what? Was that the original plan before someone realized Jay doesn't play guitar?

Starting a Riott

Ruby and Bayley got some time, and worked a great match. The Riott Squad is slowly cohering into a legitimately scary group, and it's great to see.

Nia taps (in a non-match)

I remain utterly confused by this feud. Nia is kinda acting like a face again? Ronda is bad at talking.

No Way, Curt Hawkins

Even when ambushing a mid-carder, Curt Hawkins can't win.

Once again, poor Sami

I feel so bad for Sami Zayn, stuck trying to get water from the stone that is the terrible writing of this feud.

Fatal 4Way #2

This was very good. Owens and Balor are brilliant, and Braun and Roode are fine for this type of match. The storytelling worked, and I expect to see Strowman out for an extended period during MiTB as well, to maximize his effectiveness.

Smackdown

That's not how summits work

Smackdown's women's roster is pretty amazing. And I liked that they got to both open and close the show. The storytelling here is much more coherent than on the Raw side.

Shelton and Bryan

Matches like this one are what I want to see from the Daniel Bryan return, and I suspect he would agree. Working with someone who is actually very good at this is so much better than a tall guy with extremely limited skills.

Southern Boys

I didn't understand why they had Lawler do this, until I realized the show was airing from Memphis, which is Lawler country at least as much as North Carolina is Flair country. AJ wants to hit Shinsuke. Good thing they have a match on Sunday!

It's Rusev Day!

Oh, hey! Rusev won! This, much like the Benjamin/Bryan match, was a first time ever, which is certainly exciting. If they ever commit to turning Rusev face, these two could have a terrific feud. Miz was also there.

Kinshasa! (following a low blow)

The final first ever singles match of the night would be a dream match, if Jeff Hardy was the worker he used to be. Sadly, it was only... okay.

10 Women

I don't love it when creative puts all of the women in one match. It's lazy booking, and it doesn't allow anyone of these amazing women to truly shine. That said, they made some lemonade out of that lemon, and this was lots of fun.

205 Live

Ground vs. Flight redux

Lucha House Party wins again, and the tide in this feud certainly seems to be shifting. This was tons of fun!

Tozawa beats a jobber

This is a match that happened.

Ali is great

This was Tony Nese's best match in 205, or at least the best I can recall. Ali is working at a very high level right now.

NXT

War. Raiders.

At this point, the only question about the War Raiders is how tall will they look next to main roster talent. Because in NXT, they look devastating. Just a path of destruction.

I believe the hype

Not that I needed another promo to get me excited about this match, but it's a great promo.

Kassius Ohno: Jobber To The Stars

So Ohno's jobbing is now a story. We'll see where it goes. EC3 looked pretty great!

EST

(as is often the case, there's no video for the NXT women's match)
Bianca Belair is a freak athlete.

Pete Dunne is good at wrestling

You know the drill. Pete Dunne matches are very good.

Lars hype

They sure are working hard to make us believe Lars Sullivan can beat Aleister Black. I don't.

Bonus: UK Tournament

Didnt know you were so big fan of wrestling, i was too but recently couldnt find enough time. Your posts are provoking me to join back :)

I'm going to publish a preview of TakeOver later today. If you want to get back into watching wrestling, I always recommend the NXT TakeOver shows, because they maintain a very high level.

NXT takeover shows, i got it ;) and sure i would slowly start and then build up their profiles in my head
