Irish Beefy Hand Pies...Fun, Economical & Tasty, Too!

irish hand pies meat.jpg

Okay, Steemian Friends...I promised I'd be back with this recipe...and, it sure is good! And, it's super easy, too! I made this while working three separate dishes, so I didn't get individual pictures...but, it's so simple, you really don't need much more than this...

Irish Beefy Hand Pies, 4 pies

  • 1 single pie crust recipe (link to the one I use at the bottom)
  • 1/2 # ground 80/20 chuck
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/4 cup beef stock or broth
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup frozen sweet peas

In a medium sized skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion and garlic. Sprinkle flour over the cooked meat, stir for one minute to cook off the raw flavor. Add in the beef broth and cook down to a thick consistency. This is going into the hand pies...you want it tight. Add in the frozen peas at the very end...they'll finish up, later!

Take your rounded pie dough disc and cut into quarters. Form each of these into a ball, and press, then roll it out into a 6" circle...give or take. NOTE: My dough is rolled out between two sheets of wax paper...do what your dough recipe calls for.

Just brown up your meat with the onions in it, add the garlic in the last few minutes...

Add the flour and stir in to blend...let cook for a few minutes, to cook out the raw flour taste.

Add in the milk and stock...simmer to reduce...the add peas. I couldn't get pics of the roll out, etc. It was a crazy busy morning...so, next time I do this, maybe it'll be calm enough where I can stop and take some snaps! There was just too much to get done and out on the table that morning!

Anyway, I put about a quarter cup of filling into each rounded 1/2 shell recipe, pulled together to seal and brushed with a little half & half for a nice finish. Cut a little slit in the top, to release excess steam! Bake at 375 farenheit for 15 to 20 minutes, until golden and flaky!

You can also do this in the air fryer...spray with some butter spray, and cook until crispy and golden. I haven't tried this way, yet...if you do, please let me know how you liked it!

Enjoy, my friends, enjoy!!! The crust is so flaky and rich! And the filling, perfectly savory... a perfect St. Patrick's Day Treat! Give it a try!

Looks delicious @mamajeani!! I'll be trying theses soon!🤗

Thank you. I was totally surprised at how easy they were to pull together. My history with pie dough is sketchy, at best! ;D
