I always wonder why veg bags are often made of polyester (bio stores sometimes have cotton ones). I understand it's good to use multi use bags instead of plastic bags. BUT when doesn't polyester bags release micro plastic to water when they are washed? :(

I am curious why are they made of polyester. Because of the production cost and easy handling? Do consumers prefer something see through so that we can see what's inside? Do veggies last longer in a polyester bag?

I prefer cotton bags than polyester bags. Cotton bags have friendlier outlook and touch.

Instead of complaining I should take an action. I picked some cotton fabric leftovers from my scrap box. I'll sew some veg bags with the cotton fabric and bring it to an eco market that has a box where people can drop paper/plastic bags for others :)

I look forward to showing the result to Needlework Monday next week!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with ;)

Quite simple bags ;) Needlework Monday motivates me to start this. Thanks for initiating the community @crosheille!

Of course :D

It’s great to know the community is so motivating! It motivates me too ;D

I seldom see polyester bags around here... Plastic/Polyester for a bag would be really stupid, because I do not think it is very durable and all the microplastic in the water - sigh. Perhaps its because of the small weight and the visibility of the bought goods?
I guess the shops here are even more behind the trend they still have the one-use bags for vegetables.
Looking forward what you will sew and how handy it is <3

(I took the photo at a TschiXX shop ;) REXX sells polyester ones too ... )

I use plastic bags sometimes and put veggies together. These bags are used as garbage bag for my daughter's used pampers, which I buy anyways. I shouldn't use it but the smell is ......... so until she can do everything in toilet, it's my friend.

Slightly clean ones are used as a cover for seedlings and then will host used pampers :D

I think one reason for the polyester bags might be weight for when you're purchasing. With plastic and polyester the bags are so light the scales at checkout don't register their weight, but they might register a bit of weight on a heavier cotton bag and that would be charged at the weight price of what you're purchasing. So maybe look at the lightest cotton fabrics over heavier ones.
