Oh I love cattails so much. Been wanting to have these growing near me for years. They tend to become weeds in marshes, but they are so beneficial for animal habitats. Something about the velvety chocolate hotdog flower always makes me a little happier when I see them between the green spiky reeds.
My parents got some going in one of their ponds on their farm but the cattle keep tromping them down to get to the water.

!STOP!When my grandson was little and learning that bacon comes from pigs and all those early on lessons he spotted these and was pretty sure that that's where corn dogs came from and he was quite excited about his discovery.
Kids are great fun that way. I'm sure you still have to remind him of that story occasionally.
