Good evening Steemians! Today we have another interesting article for you. Check how stars explode and are later becoming a scary black giants!

A supernova is a catastrophic explosion of a star which releases so much energy that her shine could be stronger than one of the whole galaxy itself. When star explodes it fires all of its materials into space at high speed (10% speed of light - 30000km/s). The strong shockwaves that such energy makes could potentially even create a new star somewhere in the galaxy.

This magnificent event happens rarely in our space, about 3 times through whole century in our Milky Way. The last observed supernova was Kepler's Supernova in 1604.
With modern astronomical equipment almost every future galatic supernova should be observable.

The star has to have at least 1.4 mass of our Sun to have the potential to become supernova.

Scientists have agreed on two theories that explain how supernova's are triggered. First theory is sudden re-ignition of nuclear fision and second is speculating about gravitational collapse of star's core which releases all of the gravitational potential energy from the star.

A small center core of the star that remains will start to collapse and continue to shrink until the matter is compressed into infinitely small and dense point called singularity. This point now becomes the center of a new black hole which could later suck-in whole planets.
