Time out with nature - My trip to a Conservation Center
Hello Steemians.
Today I want to share with you my trip to the Lekki Conservation Center(LCC) with a number of friends for our year end single's program. The Lekki Conservation Center is a nature reserve right in the middle of the high brow area of Lekki in Lagos. It covers an impressive 78 hectares of mostly swamp forest. It exists as one of the projects of the National Conservation Foundation. The headquarter of the foundation is at LCC in Lagos.
Arrival.
We arrived sometimes past 10:00 am, walked over to the counter to purchase tickets. We had to get two tickets, one for access to the center and another for access to the canopy walk. The canopy walk is the major attraction in the center. It's the longest canopy walk in Africa with a length of 401 meters. The center is predominantly swampy which is how Lekki was before massive sand filling was done to enable the modern city to be built.
Roof architecture. The waiting room.
After purchasing our tickets, we were ushered into a waiting hall where we were acquainted with what to expect when the walk started and some dos and donts as usual. While in the hall, we got the opportunity to relax and were treated to some music. When the time came to head out, we did just that. The walk way is an elevated platform made entirely out of wood.
The elevated walking platform.
All around were trees that played host to countless monkeys. They jumped from branch to branch, some even stay close enough to the walkway not minding the people walking by, at times looking like they're showing off and posing for the cameras.
A turtle roaming the grounds.
Before starting the hike we were warned to not take any bright yellow nylon because the monkeys recognized them as nylons from two very popular super stores which always contain goodies, the monkeys will likely snatch them, smart guys.

The Canopy Walk.
We walked for a few minutes then arrived at the starting point of the canopy walk. The queue was light and in a few minutes we were able to get on the walk.
The starting point.
The canopy walk is made of steel platforms fastened with bolts and nuts. They're connected to suspended cables that are fastened to the steel rest areas made of steel trusses. The beginning of the walk slopes at an angle of about 30 degrees to the first rest area. There are about 6 rest areas along the entire trip with one being the highest point.

The Family Park
Checkers game.
After the canopy walk, we went to the family park, the entrance to the park is like some sort of portal to another dimension with vegetation covering it all around. The family park contained a number of games, including giant checkers and chess.
The giant chess.
We sat around and played some games in the resting area of the family park. We played a memory test game and a game of table topics.
The Tree House.
On our way to the exit we stopped at the tree house, this was another high point of the whole trip. The tree is about 100 meters high.
The tree house.
The entrance is a custom ladder built entirely with wood in a tunnel-like manner in order to secure it in an event of a fall. At the top, the beams used in roofing the tree house as well as to support its roof is full of signatures of the many people that have arrived at the top. More like a sign of such great achievement making in it all the way to the top.

I loved every bit of the activities especially the canopy walk and the really high tree house, its yet another adventure and I'm just getting started with adventures.
All pictures were taken by me using my S7 Edge.
I hope you liked it, Please Upvote, Follow and Resteem. Cheers!
Oh I love the ladder that was made for the tree house!
Yea, it's pretty cool.

How nice to see this right in the middle of the city. If the walkway was not there, I do not think you could get through. Good job on going up into the tree-house, my fears of heights might to make that possibility for me.
I love those chess and checkers games. What a great idea. I hope we will see much more of your city here soon :)
Yes, it's really nice to have it there. Just outside the center is houses and offices in every direction.
True, getting through will be very difficult without the walk way. The entire area is swampy.
I'll definitely show more of my city as I am able to. Thanks for your time.

Dear @naijauser, you really get me curious with this post! We are travelers too and I must tell you, as an ignorant person, that I did not know where was this place you described in the post. So first I went to look for information on the Lekki Conservation Center and unexpectedly I found myself in Africa !! With your photos really seems to be within the walk, I love walking through nature through wooden walkways, suspension bridges, tree houses and stay in touch with all the animals around that come to see you curious. An excellent compromise between construction and preservation of nature, we hope that more communities can take this center as an example instead of destroying nature to build only cities.
Thanks. Indeed it's such a joy to be in the midst of nature.
