The Scarlet Robin
The Scarlet Robin (Petroica multicolor) is found in the south-eastern and south-western parts of Australia, including here in Tasmania. It feeds on insects. You will often see it watching from a low perch, maybe a metre or so off the ground. Suddenly it drops down and takes some poor unsuspecting insect. It then flies back to it's perch until it spies another tasty morsel. The following shots were taken in my backyard.
In case anyone is interested, the photos were taken with a Canon 7D and Canon EF 400mm f5.6 L Lens.Male Scarlet Robin

Great shots! They look so sweet, but the ones we have here can be very aggressive against their own species... Is the Scarlet Robin also aggressive?
Thanks very much. I'm familiar with the Robins in Europe as I used to live in Scotland. The robins here in Australia were named after the European robins because of superficial similarities (red breast) but they are totally unrelated.
Ok, thank you :)
All excellent photos @mostly.nature, obvious great knowledge on both, photography and nature. Upvoted, resteemed & DPS.

Lovely pictures! Such detail! Any chance you can get some shots of a Tasmanian Devil up close? I've always wondered what they look like.
Thanks you. I have photos somewhere on my computer but the filing system isn't great :-) I just posted to videos of Tasmanian Devils for you if you are interested.

Wow, these are great. I have been sharing my photos of California birds and some other wildlife, but I want to learn more about Old World birds, so I will be following you closely.
Thanks Glad you like them. They say the grass is always greener on the other side. There are plenty of North American birds that I would love to see. Had a quick look at your blog and followed but will have to wait until later to have a proper look.
