The Ferocious Tasmanian Devil

in #nature7 years ago (edited)

We have occasionally heard and seen Tasmanian devils in the backyard but as they are mostly active at night I have no photos or video. The closest encounter was just a few feet away with a devil chasing our ducks around in circles. Many of my photos and videos are taken "in the wild" so I need to mention that these were filmed at a wildlife park here in Tasmania (Wings Wildlife Park). My choice to use the word "Ferocious" is based on the definition, "savagely fierce". I think you will agree this is a good description for their behavior in the first video.

The latin name, Sarcophilus harrisii, is interesting. Sarcophilus literally means 'meat lover'. I'm sure you will understand why after watching the video. It's also worth mentioning that the Tasmanian Devil has the strongest bite, relative to its size, of any animal.

Note: I disabled adds on the second video. You may possibly get an add with the first one. I was going to disable it but it just starting to pick up steam (not steem) on Youtube.

( All photos, videos, and text on this blog are by @mostly.nature )

The next video shows them relaxing and lazing around. Wild Tasmanian Devils are nocturnal however they do occasional take in the sun in forest clearings just like these ones.

Amazing thanks so much!!

How do you put 'posts you may have missed on your posts? I love the side by side clickable pictures. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you know any HTML?
It's basically just a table with four images linked to the posts.
If you know nothing of HTML then here is good starting point.
http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_basic.asp
There is enough info on that one page to allow you to make at least one link to another post.

Awesome thanks so much!!
