Let's get one thing straight right away. My grandparents were crazy shroomers, my parents are crazy shroomers, even my brother is a crazy shroomer, I, on the other hand, am an occasional shroomer. If I feel like it ... if the weather is nice ... if I find the time I MIGHT go and get some.

I have almost zero knowledge when it comes to mushrooms. I only pick one type more or less and that is jurček/jurcek or as wiki names it Boletus edulis (English: penny bun, cep, porcino or porcini).

I also don't eat mushrooms, since I can't stomach them much and I kind of dislike the taste. We usually jar them, dry them, sell them or use them in risottos, eat them with eggs put them on pizza, use them as a spice, etc.

Shroom hunting here is taxed and we have a limit - 2kg per person for personal use only. But for people who hold mushroom picking as sacred and developed a sort of obsession, this isn't limiting.

I got up at 6 am and met my brother and his girlfriend at 7. The point is, of course, to beat everyone else to the hot spots. People here are quite friendly, they like to stop, chat you up, etc. BUT this rule does not apply in the forest. No. Shroomers have their own etiquette. The point is not to make eye contact, not to say hello, not to be loud, god forbid never look in the other's basket and the most important of all - be super mysterious and misleading. Shroomers are super territorial and dislike sharing their locations. In a way, they all know some break the law, either picking too much or picking in a forest that is not their own and without permission.

What often happens at first is ... you can't find any. I think the main issue is you are simply not used to see what you are looking for. And of course, everything is brown when you look down. Mushrooms are tricky like that, hiding under leafs and in tree stubs.

But the season was great here this year. Lots of rain helped, so even a blind chicken could find some.

We finished around 11 am and we managed to get exactly 6 kg of mushrooms. 2kg per person - 3 people. Isn't that nice! I like being so precise. If it looks like more than 6kg ... I assure you, it is just an illusion.

The last one - some random shrooms and things - cuz they looked nice.

Ohhh, mushroom hunting - not sure what I thought shrooming could have meant... :)

Depends on what kind of shrooms you mean I guess? :D Here shrooming is only one thing and not connected in getting high. :D Though I'm pretty sure if i picked the wrong ones....that might happen too.

Just love the format with a mixture of art, pics and story! Good stuff, makes me want to share some of my mushroom pictures.

ahh...learning...shrooming... didn't know this term earlier... nice picking and you beautifully narrated it making it all fun... @atopy good one...keep it up

ty! and ty for dropping by and leaving a comment :)

welcome and keep steeming hot!

wow nice

Wow! I wonder if those grow in Tennessee! Nice finds!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boletus_edulis Here you can find more info on it. In my region, it is the mushroom of all mushrooms.

@stillwatersart
nice comment and i do expect you to start shrooning in Tennessee ;)

Oh I already do! I just found some wood ear mushrooms yesterday that I will put into a stir fry tonight. 😊🍄

wow..wish i can visit to have a taste... very healthy option... wish you all the best and find time to check my blog posts too
regards and have a lovely day...

Yes, I have already followed you. I see that you do a lot of gardening posts which I like. I have guests at my house for a few days, but when they leave, I will have more time to look.

good one..thanks... i hope one day soon i join you as a shrooning guest... ;)

Nice day (not so much for the getting up at 6!). I love mushrooms, but the only hunting I do is at the supermarket. I immediately spot them if they are on sale!
Enjoy!

Yeah....the morning start sucks, but the rest was worth it. Plus had a good exercise so skipping the gym today. :D Hunting at the markets can be super tricky too! :)

For an activity that one might think of as relaxing, scenic, and passive, the reality is that its quite cutthroat, it seems! lol

Fabulous photos. We have lots of mushrooms here in New England, but since I don't know which ones might be tasty or poisonous, I just let them be. Cheers!

...it can get a bit tense. :D But my father says: are you going searching or picking? You have your Sunday searchers. Older gents and ladies who stroll near the road, their hands on the back and almost empty basket. I guess they go for the scenic and passive view.

And then you have the pickers. They don't stroll or search. They know their way around and know the locations. I did 4h of walking today, uphill, downhill, through the shrubs and thorns, etc. Judging by the sweat stream down my back I would say I got a good exercise and there was nothing passive about it. :D

I am the same...I know maybe 5 types of edible shrooms and how to use them, but as said...I don't care much for them. I like to pick them, not eat them.

haha I think you like the competition!

The drawing of you in jail made my day(night actually) xD
Picking mushrooms sounds so fun! The place looks amazing too!o.o and the pictures are cool xD
I'm happy @overkillcoin resteemed this so I could find it! ... Picking great authors to follow is more difficult than shroomming u.u don't you think?

Yes, that's me...the hard lawbreaker. Real troublemaker. :) Works both ways...now I have someone new to follow too. :) And yes....picking new ppl to follow is like picking mushrooms. Hard to find....BUT u are super happy when u do find one. :)

Just remember not to to people in your pizza at the end of the day xD

It thought you meant the other kind of shrooming, haha. And it's funny that even normal, edible, non-magic mushroom hunting is regulated by weight and for personal use only, haha.

Are you saying I used this title for click bait! I would never! :D :D :D

And yes...super annoying (the regulation).

I LOVE this! I don't even know what the laws in the US are about picking mushrooms, but I do know a few people who are quite intense about mycology. I usually just examine them on hikes and talk about how cute they are.
