What is your favorite song and why?

Quite a while back I did a post about my favorite songs of all time.  This is where @kiwideb and I became great friends.  I was scrolling down my blog since I started here on Steemit and after listening to some of these songs I decided to do another post.  What a better way to spend a Saturday night listening to old songs and remembering the past?

It is quite amazing the way that music can transport you to such a variety of sad and happy places.  I don't know where we hide away the words to songs in our brains, but I can truly remember the words of these songs even if I hadn't heard them in years.

One of my favorite singers of all time is John Lennon.  Tonight I am stuck on John.  Here are three of my favorite songs sung by non other than John Lennon.

1. Imagine

2. Stand by me

3. Women

John Lennon was a legend!

This is probably my favorite.....

I like it because it is anarchist, communist and delivers the right message.

That is exactly why I love this song!

that song kinda reminds me of this one

ha ha right...come live in South Africa and then you will see capitalism. Thanks for sharing this...

Oh yes, we talked about Midnight Oil when we first compared favourites - this is one of my top 3 of theirs. Head banging now!

I like it because its punky, funky and makes me want to leap up and down. Not that the other attributes aren't excellent!

Wasn't great fan for Billy Joel, but this one is exceptional:

Wow...this is brilliant! Makes me think of Chris de Burgh....I love this!

Actually, I think it's great because I can't remember anything similar, and so powerful

This is a great song...don't know if you have heard it. Very powerful!

Speaking of the devil…

I love country music...not all though...see, in the big race between good and evil, the good always win! :)

Nice. One of his I hadn't heard. But I do see why @giantbear was reminded of Chris de Burgh.

I can't choose just 1,2 or 3 songs. There are so many that marked different moments in my life that I struggle to choose. But I'll try to do it.
As you said the music transports us to different places and makes us live the memories. Music has the power to get you a smile or a tear without even asking for permission.
I'm going to post three:

I think I've heard it since I have reason, I have the memory of going on vacation to the beach with my family and everyone listening.

This song too. Since I was very young I hear it. Every time I need to raise my spirits, I listen to Mr Jones.

And lastly, one that marks me personally and in my way of life. I'm quite fanatic about Perl Jam. I love Eddie's way of thinking, how he lives and what he does for this world. So I could not miss my favorite band.

Thank you for making me remember beautiful memories my friend!

@tincho

This version of Those were the days my friend it's so uplifting and sad and just sums up life and living!

I love this...those were the days, if we could just have those days back! Thanks for sharing!

I'm usually more of a rock chick, but I like some classical pieces as well, and for some reason I was thinking of this operatic piece today - Handel's Dove Sei, sung by Marilyn Horne - just to throw in something at the other extreme of the spectrum. If you're not used to opera, the first 3 mins will probably be adequate for you. @cmp2020, if you're around, you'd probably appreciate this.

Off to check out everybody else's favs now.

This time difference is messing us around. I love opera. It touches your soul.

(listen to this when you have time. I knew this lady personally. She is absolutely brilliant! ) She had the same hairdresser that my grandmother did and honestly one of the most hilarious people I have ever met. She swears like a sailor but sings like an angel!

@kiwideb Goosebumps!!!!!! I have never been to an opera but I will definitely be the one sobbing her eyes out!

I'd better come with you to keep you company in the sobbing. Did you ever see my post about crying in the movies?

No, never saw that post. Send a link. LOL!

I think you really are the only person I know who likes the whole range of music I do! I've only had chance to watch half of this, hopefully will get to the rest tonight. So she is your South African equivalent of our Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.

Yes, when one of is around, the other is either sleeping or working. :-(

Check out the 2nd post by a newbie @marxrab - I don't know if you might have some hints for her.

John Lennon is most definitely legendary. Imagine is one of my all time favorites. @kiwideb is definitely a woman of excellent musical taste, and just an excellent woman of taste in general ;)
I just checked to make sure I was following you. We have a few awesome mutual friends...actually that's how deb and I became great friends, through nonames.
My blog being almost solely devoted to my novel has become a bit of a problem though, I need to diversify. In the next couple of weeks I'll be starting a series called "Exploring the Finger Lakes", that should help :)
As for favorite song...I can never choose one. But currently I'm enamored with this particular remake of Knocking on Heaven's Door:

Hi @dreemit! I love this song! Yes the famous @nonameslefttouse is a brilliant artist and such fun! I love @kiwideb but she is so busy these days:( Sometimes I wish I can just turn back to the time when we all started here on Steemit) Your blog is great. I am so tired of writing about life and improving yourself, but I have a bit of writers block so waiting for something to inspire me! 😁

That settles it, it is definitely a universal block! Haha, I've been experiencing the same thing, @nonameslefttouse has mentioned it, (and yes he most certainly is a brilliant artist and entertainer ;) @therealpaul and I were discussing this block last night. Spring is finally coming into full effect in my area, and I'm hoping that getting outdoors and spending some time in nature will be a help.
I know, @kiwideb has definitely been very busy! I tend to bother her in chat, lol, she told me that you are a lovely lady...as I said, impeccable taste!

Dunno why I am not following you but you are on my list! Just followed you again...

Mine is Stranger in Moscow by the Late king of Pop...........it's a constant reminder that we are all strangers here on Earth.

He was a wise man and wrote wonderful meaningful songs. Thanks for your comment. Listening to the song now :)

You are most welcome sir......will honour ur follow sire

Carnival of Rust by Poets of the Fall is one of my favorite songs. It's the first I heard of the band and I love the singer's voice. Every time I hear it, it makes me smile :-)

Oh this is brilliant!!!! Never heard this before, and I'm sure this will soon be my favorite song! I have such a wide variety of music taste you would not believe! Thanks for sharing ...this is fun!

I'm glad you like it!
My taste in music tends to stick to the rock part with little journeys to metal, punk or ska. I am a sucker for a good voice aswell though! I definitely also enjoy those singer/songwriter type of slow songs you hear lately.

This is so cool...thanks for sharing....weird how music can take us back in time. Must have been a great time in your life...

I am glad you like this , so many stories i haven't written yet but each period in my life had a special song. Therefore I have a few more 🙄 LIttle Wing by Jimi Hendrix forever !

Oh I have many favorite songs...lol..every week a new one! Currently I love Ed Sheeran. He is just a brilliant songwriter...
