Peace Steemit! its time for 'DJ Tips Series' #5 and today i'm going to try to answer a common question i keep hearing from friends, musicians and community peers.
'Am I Too Old To Start to DJ' ??
So here is my take on this question, Hoping by reading this post it will assist you to head in the right direction also i would love to hear your views on this subject and what are your thoughts? :)
Are you too old to start DJ'ing?
To answer this question i always ask this first You want to DJ for a 'Hobby' or 'DJ Professionally' cause it's completely two different worlds.
'DJ'ing For a Hobby', Are you too old to start DJ'ing?
No You Are Never too old to Start DJ'ing. Yes it's true as long as it is in your space like home or backyard or room, or want to DJ on a discord, online podcast, do mixtapes or just simply for having fun playing music, playing for your friends, wife, Sunday Bbq's etc...
It is is a great hobby as good music always uplifts the soul and brings great vibes for all ages!
With that said there is no age restriction for listening, collecting, playing or mixing music, so know that 'You Are Never Too old to do that' really never. This is one great hobby i encourage everyone to give it a try!
DJ'ing 'Professionally' Are you too old to start DJ'ing?
I'm in my early 40's been in the music industry for around two decades in different sectors varying from Music Production to DJ Live DJ performances to Touring and Tutoring, with that said i come from computer engineering background, geeking on games and technology and working in the corporate world for a a good time to make me realize 8 years ago that 'i need to retire early' from that world and use my expertise and pursue my own musical passion, have more time to learn and experience new things and empower myself.
Thanks for the blockchain now all of that is more achievable but that's for another topic!
Back to the DJ story, I do enjoy til date DJ'ing! From share with the crowd music i love, introduce new music while making them shake off the week's routine and stress and uplift their energy and vibes on top of all that the thrill in every different event the DJ gets by trying to read the different mix crowd and locking the right vibes and moment and taking them with on a musical journey!
Now if were talking 'Professionally'
There is really no age rule for anything in life if you put your mind into anything, You can do it! But with that said there is a price that comes from choosing the Professional DJ career as you are going to live a complete different lifestyle...
If your ok with going to work when most people wake up to go to their work, you love loud music and crowd high energy everyday of your life while tring to maintain your health and focus and not hitting a brick wall haha... Your Good!
Note: with that said some DJ's make revenues up to $46 Million / Year like Calvin Harris or another example Tiesto he makes 32 Million / Year ok one last example David Guetta 30 Million / Year i guess you got the picture, so if your parents, girl friend/boy friend, wife, boss or your cat telling you being a DJ is not a career show them these figures, but again nothing is confirmed in life.
if you learn how to DJ and invested in the best equipment's in the world nothing is confirmed that you are going to earn these numbers... You better buy Steem, Bitshares and Eos :P
Now if you never DJ'd before and you want to do this 'Professionally' I advise you to start with the 'Hobby' part first.
The 'Hobby' part first because you're going to take some time to learn the music foundations and acquire various DJ skills that are required to enable to reach that level and make big earnings from Dj'ing and also you need to put a lot of time to practice.
If you planning to start of i advise you to first invest in a small controller there are so many different types and prices in the market, or you can start with a computer software to test the water and see if you are going to like this and want to put more time and investment to get the right gear and kick off your DJ career.

If you love music or when you hear some songs your heart skips a beat or you get goosebumps then iu advise you give it shot, it's super fun and feeds the soul in a way depends what music your into :P

It's great to see a post like this. I djd for several years. It was nice for a while but it was too stressful of a lifestyle for me. I was working multiple jobs to pay for my records and travel. I was earning some but not much because promotors shorting or stiffing. The drama got to be. Plus I learned I had anxiety to where it became more difficult to be in the spotlight as a dj, even on such a small level. So after my first booking in 1998 to retiring in 2005 basically I looked for another avenue. I got a recording engineering certification then became a post production audio layback operator for tv shows and movies. It was an actual full-time job with good pay, benefits, pretty good work environment, cool work duties, and I was pretty good because of all those years learning to beatmatch. My job was basically beatmatching (syncing) audio to video. Sometimes I think about DJing again, altho ragga jungle isn't so popular, but I know the lifestyle isn't something I can be fully engulfed in again. But it opened the door for something that was a lot more rewarding for me. DJing was an invaluable experience because of that. The skills of mixing combined with networking are skills that translate into many opportunities. So, I say learn to dj, be a dj, do what makes you feel fulfilled. Age shouldn't be a barrier. So thanks for your post! Motivational!
Great motivation for those wanting to start. I think some people get worried and say "that's for the kids". Thanks for this. I was contemplating taking up DJing to compliment my music production, but it would be on a hobby level.
