Cascade - a pilgrimage

Cascade

Last June I made my pilgrimage to Italy and studied under maestro Pino Forastiere for a couple of days. During one of our sessions, we touched briefly on composition techniques and approach. I was asked to compose something based on the motif of his songs. By some dumb luck, I managed to muster up a short little section. Pino seemed pleased and I was asked to develop it as homework.

"Cascade" is the end product. I built the song around the short little section (3:00 - 4:24) but spent more time than expected, trying to chip away at it and really focus on writing, not making, music. That was the easy part compared to the numerous times I tried to get it recorded but failed time and time again. I wanted every note to count and say something.

Today is Pino's birthday and this is my little present to him. He is an exceptional musician and I am honoured to call him a friend.

As Dr Jordan Peterson puts it, "Do what's meaningful not what's expedient." Most times, doing what's meaningful is often really hard.. This was really hard for me as I am not a very good guitarist, but I enjoyed the struggle and found meaning in it, I hope it gives meaning to whomever is listening.

Happy Birthday Maestro!

You can support what I do by purchasing the song here, it's only $1 for 5 minutes of music that you'll own for the rest of your life.

Happy Birthday to your Master... Convey the wishes on behalf of your fellow friends here in Steemit....

Sorry..but for some one sitting in a far away place, the only way to know more about such great personalities is to google about him and I found out he is one of the great musician in guitar. I only heard about 16 string guitar but never came across who is performing professionally on it.. Sorry life is too busy to enjoy such things in virtual world though I love guitar and make failed attempts for one or two minutes in kid's instrument. (Background: One fellow told that my long fingers are good for the same)

Nice to hear your music. Music us always a hidden art that only some great people can take it out and help someone to polish it in that way you are lucky...

Thank you ...Cheers

Thanks for your kind words! Yes, Pino Forastiere is a fantastic guitarist and modern day composer.

hi @derekcmy
first of all your video is beautiful! it is full of emotion, of waiting, of the journey ... in it transpires your passion and your joy in meeting this great master. and the guitar is fabulous, you are very good !! Is it your passion or do you do it for work?
congratulation and thank you to share

Hi @road2horizon thank you so much for your kind words and most of all for listening! It truly was one of the best days of my life, meeting and spending time with him. It's incredible that he replied an email to a complete stranger, let me into his home, fed me wonderful homecooked Italian food and gave me invaluable music lessons.
I make music for the mandarin pop music industry, I am very fortunate to get to do this but my true passion is in perusing and studying thought provoking and complex music similar to what Pino writes.
Once again, thank you for your kind words.. It is deeply appreciated! Take care.

yes, I can only imagine how nice it is to be able to meet someone so special to you. but above all it is nice to know that she is a beautiful person, simple, able to respond with enthusiasm to those who want to learn, a generous and welcoming person. Not only a great teacher, in this wonderful way of being he becomes a "hero", and a true example of following. I am happy for you!!

How you narrated the story and the way you explained that... Nice...
And the guitar sound... ♥

That means a lot, thank you so much for listening. I took the videos of my train ride to Tivoli and the various shots of my journey last June, waited a year to put this together and publish it on the maestro's birthday. I am glad you enjoyed it.
