Stone Forest
The Old Dog @kus-knee has created fantastic art galleries where the main character is different mundane object. This week the theme is stones and here is my entry with images I took in 2011 visiting the so called Stone Forest.
The natural phenomena Stone Forest is situated 18 km from my hometown Varna. The surface of about 13 square km is covered with sand and hollow stones with cylindrical shapes with height up to 7 meters.
The place was underwater millions of years ago and these stones were formed in the course of time and they are known as bubbling reefs. Furthermore the wind has helped to shape them and with little imagination one can recognize figures of animals or mythical creatures. It was a sacred place for ancient times.
The film makers used the scenery for some movies, like "Conan the Barbarian" in 2011.
