Escape Room 2019
I enjoy watching an occasional thriller and having watched and enjoyed movies such as the SAW franchise, The Cabin In The Woods, Evil Dead, Cabin Fever, Cube amongst many others over the years I was looking forward to similar levels of excitement from this movie.
I had seen the trailer and was hoping it would be very exciting. But quite like X-Men from yesterday this too fell a bit short of expectations.
I was a bit bored today and saw this pop up on my Amazon Prime account and decided to give it a watch finally. But the movie wasn't all that good. The start was quite interesting and it has a good pace until the half way point. But the acting was satisfactory most of the time, but in some parts it was cringeworthy if I were honest.
The visual effects could've been better, the background score seemed okay but unlike other predecessors I didn't find myself tense or at the edge of the seat at any point. That's what a good thriller is supposed to do but this movie didn't meet my expectations.
The second half is where I got bored and then the switch and bait they employed to try and draw out a sequel was frankly annoying. They should've simply ended the movie with the characters who managed to escape it. The ending overall was a bit hard to digest which is where it scores the most negative points from me.
I really liked the overall concept but the execution could've been better, especially since there are so many movies of this type already, did we really need another one? Maybe not!
The movie seem to have been inspired by the Cube, atleast that's what I felt watching it. Some parts of the movie is quite engaging and there isn't a lot of gore in it. It's pretty easy on the eyes and on your senses. That's a double edged sword for a movie in this genre.
I would recommend you watch some of the movies I listed at the very beginning before you watch this one. SAW franchise for one got diluted quickly after the first three movies so it's not something I'd recommend in it's entirety if you are short on time.
If you enjoy these types of horror flicks then rest assured the Escape Room won't shock you or surprise you when you least expect it. I found it quite predictable. But, rest assured you can pass your time easily with this one.
I rate it at 2.5/5. That's being generous.
