It's a beetle, baby!

We saved a beetle!
I think it's a black beetle, but I could be wrong...
Any entomologist in the house?
We get lots of insects around here - moths, beetles, cicadas, praying mantis, etc. I may not like them much but I do admire them -
they are beautiful!

The thing about these fat beetles is that they tend to overturn (don't laugh - you would have trouble righting yourself too if you were that size... especially around the waist... ohhh, you know what I mean!) These guys always overturn and some die that way...
Kinda a sad way to end up, right (pun not intended)

So whenever I come across these, I try to find something to turn them right side up, and let them go on their way. Some walk, strut a few inches and then 'accidentally' overturn, again!
So I always watch awhile before leaving them.

I was with sis when we saw this one - about 1.5 inch in length - and she being braver, picked it up to put it on a window ledge,
when it hissed at her!

Yesssss... it hissed! Very loudly too!!!

As we watched and took some shots with our mobile phones, it hissed some more.
We noticed this one had some scars or marks around its front - probably had more than its share of scrapes, or it was an older model...

“It’s not the years, honey. It’s the mileage!” - huh?
Was it talking to us?!!!

If I was going to take this one home, I would call it 'Indy'... lol -
needs a hat though

More hissing - thank yous...
or warnings? ("Take your dirty hands off me!")

No idea - I don't speak beetle - ask the insect expert!
