The Old Ross Bridge, Tasmania (Eight Photos) (Monochrome Monday)

Built in 1836, the bridge at Ross in Tasmania is the third oldest road bridge, of those still in use, in Australia. The oldest from 1823 is a little further south at Richmond. Further historical information can be seen on seen in the plaque in the eighth photo.

Here's a closer view of some of the amazing engraving on the sides of the bridge.

The stones across the sides of the bridge have these iron staples holding them together. The arrow mark indicated they were made by convicts.

This is truly an amazing when you consider the times when it was built. Ingenious using metal staples to hold the stones together. The engraving is interesting too.
